Just the republicans! :)  :p
Posted by Madd Max on Mar. 04 2004,10:41 pm
The republicans don't want to pay for it. :D

You may want to check the election results for the high school and match them with other voting patterns before you make the claim that the republicans don's want to pay for it.

Read the forum RepDan.
It doesn't sound like they want to pay for much of anything, besides It wasn't I who wanted to call in an airstrike on the Union Center and the DFL causus. What about Issues like  Lake cleanup, the new Courthouse, A New Libiary, the county commissioners  I believe there have been post on the new high school and the old high school along with many other  different issues. Perhaps  I am just interpiting this forum all wrong and most of the poster's here are right wing fanatics that are even to far right to the mainstrean Republician party.  ???

A liberal comes along and wants not just a NEW building (Courthouse, School, Library), but a Grandiose Building--and wants Everybody to pay for it just because they think they need it.  Liberals seem to want to constantly spend everybody elses money--for their own dubious projects.

Most people will support NEEDED projects--without embellishments.  A sure sign that a project is in trouble is when it is "sold" to the community as "It will pay for itself"--"It will bring people in"--and the grand-daddy of them all--"It's for the children".  (we're still waiting for the influx of people promised 5 years ago for the high school--maybe the Courthouse or Library will "pack 'em in"!) :D

When anyone questions the REAL NEED or SCALE of the project, they are called "hard-hearted" or "uncaring"--not willing to "invest".  Lefties cast THEMSELVES  as "centrist"--they really DO believe they are the "center of the universe--everything revolves around THEIR views.  Liberals speak of "right wing" or "extreme right wing" politicians or groups--have you EVER heard a liberal (small l) speak of "left wing" or "extreme left wing" groups?:D

good post jimhanson...

What's good about it?  It's the same old conservative BS jim always posts about liberals. If you press him for specific examples of liberals thinking they are the center of the universe or that everything revolves around their views he can't come up with any.

In reality it's the conservatives that think the world revolves around their views and a perfect example is conservatives bitching and moaning about the 10 commandments being removed from public property. The liberals want it removed because they realize that it's not fair to someone that doesn't believe in an abrahamic religion and the conservatives want to keep it there because they only care about their religion yet conservatives call liberals centrists ???

I just gave you an example in the previous post--here it is again.

I must not be a conservative, then--go back and search the thread on the subject (I did)--I've never advocated in favor of having them on public property.

I don't think THAT has hardly EVER happened in the history of modern politics! :D

Conservatives are the people that believe there should be LESS government meddling in our lives, FEWER laws, LESS taxation and "income redistribution".  Remember, I'm the guy that thinks government should NOT infringe on the right of law abiding citizens to carry arms, that doesn't think the government should restrict smoking (even though I don't smoke), that DEFENDS Prinzing's rights (though I've never patronized his stores), and that the County SHOULD NOT restrict free speech (we were BOTH plaintiffs in the County case).

Liberal--I'm surprised at you--I always thought of you as a Classic Liberal--
Quote
"tolerant of view differing from ones own"
or
Quote
"favoring reform or progress, as in religion, education, etc--specifically, favoring political reforms tending toward democracy and personal freedom for the individual"
as opposed to what I call a small l liberal
Quote
excessively free or indecorous in behavior, licentious
(Good Grief--that makes me a CLASSIC LIBERAL!) :D

No... but, I don't recall ever hearing you talk of an extreme right wing group either. ???

Let's see, I don't agree with the war in Iraq, I think the current president is a tyrant that usurped the presidency with the help of his brother and the supreme court, I agree with the courthouse being built and the watershed district being formed, I would have no problem if my property taxes were doubled to pay for watershed restoration and lake cleanup. I think Al Gore is one of the most intelligent men in the world and I believe light rail is a good idea if it will lower our countries dependance on foreign oil.

What kind of Liberal does that make me?

Posted by jimhanson on Mar. 06 2004,7:06 pm
Middle of the road--for a Democrat! :D   But definitely left-of-center compared to the general populace--but I'm sure you don't mind that label! :D

You certainly meet the test of a Classic Liberal, as listed in the posts above--"tolerant of views different than ones own" and "favoring reform or progress".

You certainly don't meet the "Small l" test of indecorous--"lacking propriety, good taste, etc: unseemly"or licentious--"morally unrestrained, dissolute, lascivious, libertine".  (The way you ride that mountain bike, however, MIGHT be described as lichenous--"covered with lichens"!)  :p

In the end, it is hard to compartmentalize individuals as Republicans or Democrats--or Liberals or Conservatives.  We all have issues that cross party lines.  I think that is why political parties are becoming less and less relevant--they stake out a platform, but the platform doesn't appeal to everybody.  I think that is why people are becoming ISSUE voters, and donating to CAUSES rather than political parties--I don't donate money to a PARTY--I donate to places that are important to ME.  In addition to charities, I support the NRA, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Assn., INDIVIDUAL candidates, and LOCAL ADVOCACY groups.  These groups support specific things I believe in, and if a politico wants money for a campaign, let them come to the group for money and votes--rather than a political party.

I realize thats the reason liberals want it removed, but I think if you want the real reason why conservatives are against it, you'd have to ask a conservative.  Personally, I don't understand why people would be offended by it, if I'm in a foreign country that mostly believes in something other than christianity, I'm not gonna get offended if I see a statue of budha on public property.  If I went to mecca to go sightseeing I'm not gonna get ticked off if I see a shrine for allah, so why would someone be upset about seeing the 10 commandments in the U.S.?

As for the current majority of the Supreme Court that we can thank for this, I think their hippocrites.  They hand down these rulings about other public places, but as you walk in the courtroom, theirs an engraved figure of Moses holding his famous (and now controversial) template.  If they want to remove it from public places, they could start with the building they work in.
