Speaking for myself, I've never given 2 shits about any religion, sky gods are just not my thing, but I was wondering today if I'm an exception to the rule. So I texted my friends and it turns out the majority doesn't give a shit about the Christmas fairy tale. Seems most people think that Thanksgiving is as religious of holiday as Christmas.

I think it's associated with the ever increasing number of people in the US who no longer identify as Christian in general.  A study in 2014 pegged the number at ~23%, updated to ~30% in 2020 and projected to continue that trend.  What might have been 1 in 20 people during my childhood is now 1 in 3.  Pretty stark trend.  Even in a relatively conservative rural area, churches here in general are struggling.

More specific to Christmas, if you aren't devout, or even interested in church and the "meaning" of Christmas, then it's an over commercialized season of "deals", "wishes" and never ending exhaustion and burnout until we can start the next 306 day countdown until Halloween so retailers can put out the Christmas shit decorations again.

I agree 100%, it's really over commercialized. Another thing that bothers me is that you're giving gifts that you think someone else might like just because you feel obligated to buy a gift. I prefer to give friends and family gifts throughout the year for no reason.
