Went to the courthouse to be raped for my license tabs today. All the doors are closed except 1 and you need to to through a metal detector to get in that one. Before going through the detector you put your stuff in a tote, so my wife set her unzipped small purse in the tote. Before giving it back to my wife the "deputy" stuck his hand in there and searched her purse.

This is crazy. When did we start giving up our 4th amendments rights just to pay our taxes?

And why does that courthouse look abandoned at 3pm on a Friday? Do the taxpayers that pay their wages get to leave work early on Fridays?

When did they start that?  Seems excessive. I do my tab electronically and have them mailed.  Anything to avoid having to go in

I went through that kind search when I was on Jury Duty but that was just for entrance into the Courtroom..

Apparently things have changed in the last few years...

If you're not require to mask any more why are citizens subject to search just entering the Courthouse?

there might have been people working in there. . . they're very quiet and kind of isolated in the enormity of the facilities there lol

think the PANDEMIC showed us that big government buildings probably aren't going to be something that is needed going into the future

they spent what 2 years closed up to the public?

didn't seem to effect things that much

you could probably SKYPE a lot of courtroom things permanently hah

medical field is increasing the use of it

Another thing that's irritating is they moved the license center to the "Historic" or "old" part of the courthouse. To get there you have to do a 180 degree turn, go up a stairway and take a left through this hallway with incredibly shitty lighting, it was actually so dim we thought it was closed. That's also the only way to get to the county commissioner's meetings. So in Freeborn county to redress grievance with your government, or pay taxes, you have to be searched, and navigate a poorly lit maze just to get to the meeting, or the DMV.

Maybe I'll go to the meeting Tuesday and record the whole process of getting to a county board meeting.

^^The VA office is located in the old Courthouse too.

Might not hurt to talk to Brandon about your health condition, you might not get the full boat or maybe you will, but you'd still qualify for discounted medical treatment and medication at some level..

At least talk to them, Brandon Serventez and Robin Evenson are good people, they are there to help Vets..

My autoimmune problems started before I enlisted so the Army doesn't owe me anything.

My medical bills were over $400k the last 2 years and I pay like $6,000 a year for insurance.  It's worth that just to screw over Mayo Medica, and I wouldn't get that same pleasure if taxpayers were getting screwed.

Guess I'm super lucky, in my early 70's and not on any medication...or debilitating health problems..

Well the occasional recreational drug(Viagra) washed down with a little Jim Beam...

With the amount coal dust and asbestos and welding fumes I've inhaled I should have died years ago.

Not to mention the agent orange of late 60's early 70's...The agent orange from 2016 to 2020 did more damage..

I'm not sure I'd have the fortitude or strength to go through a lifelong heath struggle like yours. But I guess when it's forced on you, you've got to play the cards as the fall.

On the VA our thoughts are similar, but my situation and yours are complexly different.
I did qualify for the VA, hold the card and I'm in the system but I've never used it.
The VA has limited funds and who am I to jump in line front of some one who really paid a price for their service, lost legs arms, burned or maimed.
But I also believe we should help Veterans like you, who have lifelong debilitating health issues.
You enlisted to serve your Country if you have a benefit coming don't be ashamed to take it.

You're lucky because your wife holds a job with Mayo, that insurance disappears when she retires.
LPN stands for Low Paid Nurse, Mayo's 403b isn't exactly something to write home about.

If my memory serves you're now in your now in your mid 50's in 10 or so years you'll be 65 and you'll have to make some serious choices as to Medicare. This will be a one time shot for you with a preexisting condition, be damn careful on what you select..

Medicare comes in two main Flavors, Traditional Medicare ( the real deal ) and Medicare Advantage or part C ( the Republican attempt to privatize Medicare ) these things are like HMO's or PPO's they can vary greatly, but most have small networks and you're limited to who you can see, and it's all up to the insurance company if you receive treatment.

I wouldn't let them take advantage of me so I'm on Traditional Medicare that's good anywhere with no insurance company restrictions..

But it's not free, all totaled I pay about $5400. a year for my supplement to Medicare, My part D and the Governments standard monthly premium for Medicare Part B $170.10 .

As I make less than  $91,000  a year it's at $170.10 go over that number and you premiums progressively climb..

The for PROFIT Medical System in this Country is kaput...Prices of treatment and drugs are way out of line...

Medical and insurance costs are probably one of the largest problems I our country today when it comes to peoples finances.  Insurance costs continue to rise due the the rising costs of medical treatment.  And the coverage gets worse.  For the most part people can get by as long as nothing sever happens.  Then depending on what it is and what their insurance coverage is it can be devastating.

My oldest has local focal seizures.  No one knows why.  Has had them since he was in about 9th grade.  He just finished his freshman year of college.  When he is done and off our medical coverage it’s going to be important that he get good medical because just his pills (twice a day) would cost sans insurance $1,100/month.

In the greatest country in the world, people should not have to worry about paying for medications that keep them functioning and alive
