here we go, the GOP (Government Of Putin) House Republican Mike D. Rogers and seven of his GOP cohorts introduce HR 193..American Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2017

This bill repeals the United Nations Participation Act of 1945 and other specified related laws.

The bill requires:
(1) the President to terminate U.S. membership in the United Nations (U.N.), including any organ, specialized agency, commission, or other formally affiliated body; and
(2) closure of the U.S. Mission to the United Nations.

The bill prohibits:
(1) the authorization of funds for the U.S. assessed or voluntary contribution to the U.N.,
(2) the authorization of funds for any U.S. contribution to any U.N. military or peacekeeping operation,
(3) the expenditure of funds to support the participation of U.S. Armed Forces as part of any U.N. military or peacekeeping operation,
(4) U.S. Armed Forces from serving under U.N. command,
(5) diplomatic immunity for U.N. officers or employees.

crazy never takes a day off in the GOP...

^^ you sure know crazy😜

What's crazy is how the US pays 22% to the un and 27% towards peacekeeping.

The US is on the hook for 49% to the feckless un, while the remaining countries make up the rest.

:finger: the un

^^Yeah right, diplomacy is too expensive, it's far more cost-efficient to send our children to needless wars and get them back in boxes or so damaged in body and mind they're on Disability for life.

But there are profits to be made in war and these profiteers are quick to feed the right-wing media the evils of diplomacy and the United Nations.

There are several factors that determine our UN cost, gross national product (GNP) and a number of adjustments, including data for external debt and for low per capita incomes.

Not to worry, by the time Trump's trickle down goes into full swing we'll be in another Great Depression, our UN dues should drop like rock...he's got a real plan for America

Posted by Liberal on Feb. 03 2017,1:21 pm
Great plan, piss off all our allies, and drop out of the U.N. What could possibly go wrong?
Posted by Glad I Left on Feb. 03 2017,1:29 pm
You can still be allies and be diplomatic without being in the UN.
This president can't of course, but a normal one could.
For me, I just don't see the return on investment for being in the UN.

Despite all the hoopla about our U.N. dues, many years we don't pay anything.  In fact, it seems to me not too long ago it was said that we were years behind on paying our dues.  Somehow we're never behind on all the weapons we buy for Isreal every year.

Speaking of which, the weapons we bankroll for Isreal cost the U.S. taxpayer more than three times those U.N. dues.  If we're going to start cutting, how about we start there.  It costs the most, and does the most damage to our image around the world.

^^ our image? Bowing to every tin horn dictator and apologizing?

Yup, hell  of an image :dunce:

Many cultures bow, similar to how Americans shake hands as a greeting.

But more importantly, I'd rather have a President who bows to Asian leaders than one who hangs up on allies while he bends over for the Russians.   :p

Oh my you get pissy, Bowing to an Asian leader is traditional, kissing ass to Iran, making deals to take in "refugees" that are in prison as a little "surprise" is treasonous.

Somebody give me an example of 1 thing the United Nations has done for the United States?
Posted by Expatriate on Feb. 07 2017,6:01 am
^^ and there it is, the AM radio mantra...
How about for starters we haven't had another World War, the last one 60 million dead, two thirds of the world in ruins, debt we've never really recovered..the next one we'll all be dead..or worse..

It's long been a Republican goal to rid US of the UN, why is that?

Posted by Self-Banished on Feb. 07 2017,7:08 am
^^ oh, I don't know, let's pick one

sov·er·eign·ty
ˈsäv(ə)rən(t)ē/
noun
supreme power or authority.
"how can we hope to wrest sovereignty away from the oligarchy and back to the people?"
synonyms: jurisdiction, rule, supremacy, dominion, power, ascendancy, suzerainty, hegemony, domination, authority, control, influence
"their sovereignty over the islands"
the authority of a state to govern itself or another state.
"national sovereignty"
synonyms: autonomy, independence, self-government, self-rule, home rule, self-determination, freedom
"the colony demanded full sovereignty"
a self-governing state.
plural noun: sovereignties

Now I know that's a big word for you, 3 maybe 4 syllables(depending on who's pronouncing) Consider it your learning experience for today. :D

And it branches off exponentially after that.

Oil for food ring a bell? the UN is rife with scandal after scandal.  It's a money boondoggle that would make Bernie Madoff blush.

Sell the lease for the U.N. buildings to Larry Silverstein and *poof* they'll go away.

The U.N. is a money pit that isn't paying freedom dividends for the United States.

The power of the United Nations and NATO have long been in place to maintain peace around the world. Its not perfect but considering Hitler's aggression across Europe that caused the deaths of 50 million people in World War II alone, the combination of the two has been a major success..

Go ahead and play directly into the hands of Putin/Russia so he can advance his borders across Europe..

Some people will never learn..

You mean the U.N. didn't stop us from invading Iraq, firing their military and legally banning a political party?  The U.N. didn't join us in that and we didn't want their input, the only way they could stop the power vacumm that created ISIS would be to stop us from firing their military and banning the Ba'ath party.

Anybody else notice the crickets chirping after I pointed out that weapons to Isreal cost us triple the U.N. dues that you're all complaining about?

Why keep pretending that this is about money or diplomacy if you don't care about either?   :dunno:

Posted by Self-Banished on Feb. 09 2017,10:25 am
^^ yes, Israel does get a lot of money, let's cut them 10% and the UN 100% and call it a day.

Nice down payment on a wall. :D

Posted by pepi-lapew on Mar. 12 2017,1:35 pm
I would  rather give it to Israel than the U.N. At least they are not trying to kill us The U.N. does not like being fair to Israel or the U.S.A. They should take the U.N. building and make a big crapper out of it. (outhouse}
