It's the tribune's version of political funnies.  He should be in the entertainment section instead of the opinion page.  WT is the true Elmer Fudd of Looney Tunes comics.  Here's a recent one.  They appear sometimes two or three a week.  None seem better than another, because just when you think this guy can't get any loonier, he does.

QUOTE
< Happy trails to loons and pinheads >

I remember back in the days when I rode the range with Roy, Hoppy and Gene. We always got the bad guys. I guess I am the only one left of the biggies. I will continue with my mission that I learned from my saddle buddies. I won’t let those far-right pinheads get away with their tricks.

I know those far-right Fox News addicted Tea Party loons will say and do anything to try and make Obama look bad. I don’t know what they are worried about. He can’t run for president again. They must be worried that Michelle Obama will run. That would be a good team, Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama.

That Republican Congress is upset with President Barack Obama for going over its head.  Well, what was the man supposed to do when you got a do-nothing Congress? I don’t know what those Republicans are going to run on in the next election. I don’t understand why anyone would vote for them. This country would have been in such good shape if they would have worked with Obama. His heart was certainly in the right place.

I think it is terrible the way they sit back and don’t have any solutions for the problems we have. But as soon as Obama makes a decision to solve the problem, they are right there to find fault with his decision. He’s darned if he does and darned if he doesn’t.

For those of you who have confronted me about calling those far-righters names, I will explain it again. I got it from Bill O’Reilly on Fox News. He is always calling the Democrats far-left loons or far-left pinheads. I know the Republicans think it is cute when he says it, but they get upset if it is used on them. I did explain this in one of my previous letters, but some of you must have missed it. Well, it is time to ride off into the sunset and look for far-right loons or far-right pinheads.

His letters to the editor and comments on the Tribune site are the equivalent of a homeless derelict standing in the street yelling at cars and passersby.

I kind of like this guy too.  He is Mr. conspicuous consumption, and he wants us to feel sorry for him as he sprinkles his yard rain or shine because he has to purchase a meter to avoid a sewer fee.  Sorry but I did tear up a bit as I read his letter.  I was laughing so hard that I couldn't control the tears.

QUOTE
Stealing allowed by your elected public official?

In my opinion, our elected officials, the mayor and the Albert Lea City Council members are allowing the city of Albert Lea to steal from its citizens. Definition of stealing from Webster’s Dictionary: to take (something that does not belong to you) in a way that is wrong or illegal. (Like your hard earned money).

You may ask why do I say this? Albert Lea citizens received a letter in the mail about a month ago regarding that the city is now going to charge you sewer rates for the extra water you would use to make your property green. The city previously charged you for the extra water used, and charged you for winter sewer rates. Now they are charging you for all the water you use and charging you as if all that goes down the sanitary sewer. If there is a larger use in summer, it more than likely is for watering your garden, flowers, yard or even washing your car.

Yes, there was I believe something in that letter, which I threw in the garbage, that the state of Minnesota said that cities can charge sewer rates for the extra water used. But, if I remember correctly, the cities could do that, but they were not mandated to charge its citizens in this manner. That’s why I mentioned above that our elected officials are allowing the city to steal from us. I have no problem with paying for the extra water that I use.

There is a way out of this. Yay! The city said that we can install a meter to measure flow into the sanitary sewer system. Hold your horses though, the individual homeowners have to pay for the meters being installed and I believe pay a monthly fee for the meter being in place. I assume that is for someone to read the meter. Now, does not your power company furnish a meter free of charge to meter your electrical and gas usage? Does not the city have a meter on your house somewhere to measure your water usage? If the city wants us to pay for extra sewer usage when we use more water that soaks into the ground, why shouldn’t the city of Albert Lea furnish meters installed free of charge to all of its citizens to measure what goes into the sanitary sewer system?

Now back to my comment at the top. Are our leaders allowing the city of Albert Lea to steal from us? Maybe we need to remember that at election time. Or are they trying to recoup money lost that they paid a finance director who quit her job and gave her a severance package amounting to three months of salary and health insurance, including dental, through September? As a manager in a business, I have never seen anything like that benefit where you reward someone who quits their job? One more thought as long as I am on my soapbox: As you drive west out of town over the first viaduct, look to your right and see the mess inside the fence behind the residential area. I thought that the city was concerned about what our town looks like. I believe that this mess has existed there for years.

Why does the city not clean up this mess and charge the landowner like they do when someone’s grass gets too long? West Main Street is one of the more heavily traveled arteries in and out of our beautiful city, but the city has turned a blind eye to this mess? The only thing that I can think of is that our city employees and leaders must know the property owner and are looking the other way. Come on city leaders, clean up your act and treat everyone equally.

I am going to break it to you with as few words as I can. If I have a friend that is a felon and he wants to buy a firearm I can go buy it for him and I will pass the background check. If he goes out and uses it to commit a felony nothing can be done to me. Now that isn’t right. If you don’t understand this than you don’t want to understand it or you have a weak mind. I used the example of furnishing liquor to a minor and he goes out kills someone with his car. The person furnishing the liquor can be held responsible. Anyone that wants to buy a firearm now can get one. All they have to do is pay someone to buy it for them. If they knew that they might be responsible for what that felon uses it for they would think twice. I don’t know why any legitimate gun owner would be against this.

Economy grows under Democrats
Published 9:06am Friday, September 5, 2014
Email     Comments

This letter is in answer to David Anderson from Lonsdale’s letter on Aug. 26 headed “Facts are facts despite opinions.” This was the second letter in which Dave has blasted me. His first was on June 6 headed “Democrats have to blame themselves.” Dave was talking about how bad it is to live in Minnesota under Democratic Party rule. In my letter on Aug. 8 headed “Wisconsin is run by Republicans,” I suggested he move to Wisconsin.

The Republicans have ruined Wisconsin. It has been all over the news on how they have done everything they can think of to bust the unions in their state and the state is suffering. Now let’s look what PolitiFacts has accepted as facts from 1961 to 2012. The Republicans created 24 million private sector jobs. The Democrats created 42 million private sector jobs.

Under Nixon, Reagan and Bush, the average annual economy growth rate was 2.54 percent.  Under Kennedy, Clinton and Obama the average annual economy growth was 4.35 percent. The Republicans are always campaigning for lower taxes and little regulation to unleash economic growth.

Dave, why does the country do better under Democratic presidents than Republican ones? Why are the poorest states in the U.S. run by Republicans? Nine out of 10 of the poorest states are run by the Republicans. These are all facts accepted by PolitiFacts. There are some people in the middle class and the Average Joe that actually believe that when a Republican talks about reducing taxes that they actually believe they are talking to them. The only people the Republicans care about are the filthy rich and the top 1 percent. Common sense tells you if you give welfare to the rich it just goes in their bank account and does nothing to stimulate the economy. But give it to a less-fortunate person they will spend it and stimulate the economy.

Dave, I have several far-right Republican pinheads here in Albert Lea I have been trying to educate. I will be happy to add your name to the list. I am the most hated person in Albert Lea by these far-right Republican pinheads. I suppose I am big enough to take in the town of Lonsdale, also.

Not exactly.  For instance his comments on how Republicans ruined Wisconsin.

I would argue Governor Walker walked into office when the state had a 3.6 billion deficit, passed Act 10, and now has a 1 billion surplus.  All while being distracted by two recall elections (that liberals and unions started because they didn't get their way)...which he won, mind you.

Have you read the news lately? Rush Limbaugh and Ben Carson are worried Obama is going to change the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution that says a president can only serve two terms. They are worried he is going to run again. I don’t blame them because things are going so good in America at this time. Do you know anyone that is hurting right now? I don’t. The stock market has almost tripled since Obama was elected. The unemployment has dropped to 5 1/2 percent nationally. It has dropped to 3 1/2 percent in Minnesota with $1.9 billion deficit surplus. The Republicans are having a hard time finding something to holler about. Now they are saying Obama doesn’t love America. Do you know anyone that lives in the U.S. who doesn’t love America? I don’t. This Republican Congress has done absolutely nothing except attempting over 50 times to undo Obamacare. If they would have spent their time trying to fix the nix and problems with it instead of undoing something the majority of Americans want they would have done something. The politicians have been trying for years to get universal health insurance. Now that we have it they should work to make it as good as Social Security that we all enjoy. I have a hard time believing that there are people out there who would actually vote for a Republican after the showing they have had in the last six years. They keep hollering gloom and doom trying to put fear into the American people and it surprises me how many people swallow this fallacy. These people need to stop and smell the roses.

Polls show most people support gun sales checks

Well, the Republicans did it again. They voted down background checks on firearms sales. The polls show that 89 percent of the American people want background checks on firearms sales. This means that the majority of Republican voters want it also. The firearms companies own the Republican Party. The gun lobbyists obviously receive a lot money from those firearms companies. There are a lot of weak-minded Republican voters who believe even if they are a responsible gun owner that they will lose their guns. There are just as many responsible Democrat voters that own guns also. Why aren’t they brainwashed on the same idea? The Republican gun lobbyists have done a very good job of spieling their fallacies. We lost over 60,000 Americans in the Vietnam War that lasted over 10 years. We lost over 4,000 Americans in the Iraq War that lasted over 10 years.   In the last 10 years we have lost over 300,000 Americans due to gun violence. What war should we be fighting? Hillary says she will do her best to get background checks through.   Trump this week says he will look into getting it through.   But that is what he says this week. Nobody knows what Trump stands for. He changes his mind every other week.  It depends on what crowd he is talking to. One week he is for pro-life and the next week he is for pro-choice. Is it any wonder why the Republican Party doesn’t want to back him? He says he doesn’t care. He doesn’t need them. He can handle it all by himself. Does anybody think we need an arrogant con artist like this running our country? I think not.

Lawyers are often found in law firms, that is private sector.  Otherwise in civil or criminal enforcement, or education.  And aside from the occasional actor or realty star, politicians are often lawyers.  Sorry to break it to you, but people who deal with the law are often lawyers.  :dunce:

Odd to have a truck driver continually criticize a Lawyer, Professor, and Senator.  Apparently his resume is an embarrassment to you, maybe you and the letter writers would respect Obama more if he had become a plumber or coffee shop owner, and then ran for President.  You know, met a payroll and such.   :sarcasm:

Randy is another one that appears to vote blindly but this topic was about Wayne. Thus my comment, about Wayne.  Had the thread been about Randy, I would have said the same thing about him had he written a similar letter.

Edit:  Now that I have re-read this, to say that I have cheered any of these letters to the editor authors is absurd.  I find the main 3 (Randy, Wayne, and John) incredibly one side blind.

In fact I have commented in the section with my real name often times. I don't have an issue with what I say and will stand by it.

Wayne IS a moron, he deflects and trolls and adds nothing of anything factual to his letters let alone his responses to those who question his letter to the editor.   Just reading his reply to "Yankee" he fills his replies with nothing of substance other than his broken record diatribe of "I didn't vote for Trump".

I suspect 'ol Wayne gets his facts and figures from one source and I suspect that source is on TV in the form of the nightly news, instead of reading the likes of Wall Street Journal and researching what the bobbing heads are driveling out of their crap holes.

Taxing the rich an ungodly tax, i.e. 91% doesn't work and will never work, way to many unintended consequences in doing so and does more damage to an already fragile economy, something marxists/socialists/communists fail to understand or can admit that those economic polices are worthless and don't work.

The high top tax rates of the 40's and 50's were in place to encourage the rich to reinvest in the country and their businesses, as opposed to just hoarding wealth. Look at all the schools and infrastructure we built during that time, not to mention the prosperity of the average worker. To be against those sorts of developments seems inherently un-American to me.

Yes, tax us 91% just after WWII, we were pretty much the only game in town. Japan's All of Europe's industrial capabilities were in the toilet, a lot of the rest of the world too. We had no damage to our capacity. Our factories were running full tilt for the war effort, easily turned to consumer service.

Now, the present. We're in competition with the rest of the world. They've learned to operate efficiently, innovation the game plan, they learned it from us. We rebuilt them, we educated their youth in our colleges and tech schools yet we bitch that it's not fair.

What, go back to 90 plus% taxation? You and Expat truly are retarded, wanting to go back to a time of one parent income and mom's apple pie. The more the tax, the more industrial leaders say "I think I'll set up shop in a more economical atmosphere ".

Apparently you know this twit, he served 30 years in the military? Yet in the comments said he lost hi job at the packing plant due to Reaganomics. I've got and have had many friends that served in the armed forces, some served a couple of years some more. One was an owner of a successful corporation, he was a 20 year vet. His opinion of long term service was that there were those who took advantage of what the military had to offer, education, improving oneself, then those that were generally social f&ckups the couldn't function in the real world, needed guidance, someone to blow there nose and wipe their ass.

Thirty years in the military only to end up killing pigs? Hmmm.🤔

Trump's story about a high lottery number is another lie, why is he trying to coverup the 1Y he received on his second military physical in 1968—this would have been his induction day, this was a rudimentary physical as he'd already past his first primary physical. Somehow Trump is able to change his 1A to a 1Y, there has to be some intervention from a private sector physician on Trump's behalf!

The Selective Service lottery system didn't start till 1970 or so, the Truth and Trump are never on the same page..

That isn't entirely accurate of the 91%/92% rate of the 50's.
The top 1% between 1950-59 paid an average of 42%, further more the 91% applied only to households making above $200K/year (around 2million today) which would be a small number of taxpayers that would have fell into that bracket circa less than 10,000 households.

The 2008 financial crisis was the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression of 1929. Wall Street and the U.S. banking system were collapsing.
This was going on all throughout the failed Bush/Republican administrations tenure, housing prices collapsed, people couldn't pay their mortgages, major manufactures were going belly up unemployment was record high and you can't seem to remember those days, amazing—living proof diesel fumes kill brain cells!

Yes we are in an economic recovery, thanks to President Obama, for the past year we've been running the government on his budget not Trump's..

Apparently, Wacky Wayne is still at it

Now, are these the same polling outfits from 2016? I guess we all know how that turned out.

But humor Wayne,

Will it be Biden? The stroke victim with failing intellect?

Elizabeth (I lied my entire career to get ahead) Warren?

Or will it be Batshit Sanders? The man who has never held a real job in his entire life and wants to tax us into oblivion with 16 trillion dollars of new spending.

The rest of them are inconsequential, passed over by the far left Nazis.

I love when this idiot writes :D

Posted by was1 on Sep. 20 2019,8:13 am
Much like many of us love when you write.

Wayne had a few good points.

Maybe its the same pollers Trump fired from his reelection campaign not long ago for giving him similar results.

The election is a long ways off.  Polls mean nothing at this point.

IMO - the D's really need to figure things out and quick.  Pull back from their far left stances on things.  Get one of the more centrist to be the nomination.  Otherwise Trump and his flock of mindless sheep will prevail once again.

And, even if he doesn't, will he actually admit defeat and leave office?  I have my doubts.

Posted by Self-Banished on Sep. 20 2019,9:32 pm
You should enjoy my musings

The point Wayne has is the on on his head.

Yes, polls mean nothing, we learned that in 2016.

So you’ve seen the handwriting on the wall, a healthy economy, a no bullshit attitudes towards governing and a waaaay, left of center candidacy. I don’t count chickens often but if our President comes through we’re going to make a lot of money. If not, the economy will crash big time.

Notice how the title is labeled "Defend democracy"
From what I can tell and noticed during trumps years in office, any sort of requiring the govt to adhere to its constitutional constraints was taken as trumpism and a threat to what many have come to believe that our system of govt is run by the wishes of the many or the many get to determine the narrative and forget the United States is a Constitutional Republic.

Those are my observations of the hate directed at those who wish and demand the govt act in accordance of being a Constitutional Republic and not necessarily a support of trump.

I guess this came about from the letter dillwad came up with a few weeks ago, “do you Know anyone who makes over 400k a year?”

I’m just a small business operator, a truck driver., yes, I do know people that make over 400k a year, many in fact, I do business with them on a daily basis. Point being, if their taxes are raised, their business suffers so all they’re going to do is raise their prices, I will follow suit. Then, the real “ trickle down effect” will happen, prices will increase. Put this on top of inflation (has anyone noticed the price of lumber as of late?)
