MEA is 10/17 and 10/18 this year, does our gov. Actually work? 5-6 weeks into the school the teachers that instruct our children meet to discuss their trade. Do they go to the conferences? No, attendance is nil and the "responsible adults" take off on mini vacations. Yet if there's bad weather officials piss and moan about maybe having to add days into the summer to make up the days

Maybe it's time to change these policies, MEA should be held in the summer months(heaven forbid because this might interfere with their summer plans)

The teachers also get paid for this playtime and don't have to attend, my thought being if they don't attend, they don't get paid.

Most school districts do not consider MEA paid work days.  AL included.

Cool, as it should be.

But I do agree that lots of these types of things should be moved to summer months.

Soon the "summer months" will be 15 days long with 45 days of school in between. So I have heard, coffee shop talk so to say.

I started school in Oceanside, California in the mid-1970s. The year after we moved back to Minnesota, that school district went to a 9 weeks on/3 weeks off, year round schedule.
