It shouldn't matter if your Heidi Kluhm (German), Micheal J Fox(Canadian) or Juan Valdeaz (made up coffee commercial South American), if you are in the country illegally you should be arrested and sent packing.  I don't know about anyone else but for me its the law breaking illegal part of the equation, not the country of origin.  Do it the right way or face the consequences.
Posted by This is my real name on Aug. 03 2012,9:56 am
As tasteless as Mal can be, I do agree with the idea that his sign is conveying. But much of what he does seems to be calling attention to himself. It gets people talking - about him.

Remember the fiasco with Grace Schwab and Pam Folkens "stealing" letters from the yellow sign he parked in the Northbridge Mall parking lot? (Actually, they removed them after trying to reach him to remove the sign himself - since they didn't want that sign associated with the mall.) It turned into an issue over his Freedom of Speech. Someone else's property trumped his Freedom of Speech there (though they may have had to pay for the allegedly "damaged" letters, I don't recall).

Now with his sign on his own property, he can pretty much anything he wants. I wonder how often he'll change it. Perhaps he'll call out some of our local leaders, and be smart enough not to mention their specific names to avoid any potential lawsuits. We'll see. At the very least, it should be interesting whether or not we agree with whatever he is saying that day.

This whole debate is nothing more than racist leanings masquerading as concern for lost jobs. If Mal and his F-tard ilk were really concerned about lost jobs, they'd be picketing Walmart as well. More american jobs have been lost due to Walmart's actions than to illegals.

Don't blame the people trying to survive by exploiting lax ICE enforcement. Blame the corporations that hire them. But I'm not holding my breath. I doubt Paul Westrum has the cajones to mess with Hormel Foods.

That can be said both ways...more often than not, the illegal immigrants fail to keep the word "illegal" in their terminology.

what is there to not understand the difference between legal & illegal immigration?
i for one do not understand how illegal immigrants feel they are eligible for the same benefits as legal immigrants. there is a long process to obtain legal status but by doing so the immigrant obtains a feeling of what it means to be a u.s. citizen. this whole mess is very complex but when it is boiled down to what is legal & what is illegal  it seems rather straight forward! i personally see nothing wrong with the sign terminology. it was previously mentioned that the spanish community would take offense of the terminology. i would think that any person of spanish decent that was in this country legally would support this thinking.  from what is have seen of the long time spanish community in a.lea they have embraced the american way of life & the english language as a whole. i view this problem not as an ethnic one but as what is legal & what is not! reverse this situation & see how far you would get in mexico! i am under the opinion that many industries, particularly the packing plants benefited from the cheap labor. this situation (illegal immigration) has become so huge that it is now practically unmanageable & is costing the u.s. taxpayers an unknown amount of tax dollars.
this is just my humble opinion!

If the guy wants to waste his time and money making up signs let him. The more you pay attention to the guy, your showing him the attention he's seeking.

If he was really concerned about something around here. He should be making up signs about how our city government screws us, because our city leaders are the one F'in us over more than illegals abusing the system. In this small town anyways.

So you've:

...never looked on as someone (possibly a relative) drank underage,
...never consumed illegal drugs, or turned a blind eye to someone who was,
...never been a passenger in an over-the-speed-limit vehicle, and subsequently didn't file a complaint,
...never worked for cash, knowing full well this was against the law,
...and so on.

If you're going to harp about one law being broken, you'd better harp about them all.

All these "crimes" you talk about are comparable to a person coming into the country illegally for maybe a day or two and then going back. Nobody, speeds, drinks underage, uses drugs, or works for cash, etc, etc, 24/7/365. Everyone will break a law OCCASIONALY and if they get caught they should own up and face the consequences. Why would anyone think it's ok for someone to come into this country illegally and receive all the benefits while contributing nothing? Only a fool would think this is sustainable.
Posted by Blaze on Aug. 04 2012,9:06 pm
Botto, I agree with you 100%.  I am a very boring law abiding senior citizen who has never done any of those things you asked about.  I believe a law is a law and should be enforced!  One thing I do question, though, is the fines.  I have no idea where they go or what they are used for.  That being said, I have noticed many times lately that a young person is fined $180 for no proof of insurance.  My first thought is, if that person cannot afford insurance, how can they afford a $180 fine?  If an affluent person chooses not to purchase car insurance and gets caught, the fine doesn't mean much to them.  So, in both instances, in my opinion, a sentence to serve would be more meaningful.  A person with no extra income would be able to work off the fine, and an affluent person, to whom the $180 is not important, might be more inclined to pay the insurance, rather than do the sentence to serve.

As far as I'm concerned, nobody sums this xenophobic crap that's masquerading as a First Amendment issue better than Warren Jason Street on < albertleasucks.com >:

"Immigration Reduction" is just a polite way of saying get the [bleep] out to a group of people. What a racist, ignorant bunch of people. There is nothing more un-American than that sentiment. The America that people want to live in is the one that takes people in and lets them have a chance at the American dream. These assholes don't want to live in that country anymore. They want to sit in their filth and spew hate because that's all they have left in their blackened, useless souls.

If you want proof--proof--that Albert Lea really does suck, look no further than this sign, this message, and the people who stand behind it. What a disgrace. And if you want more proof that Albert Lea's media doesn't get it, then look no further than the disgraceful presentation of this as "free speech" by a hate group as a way of providing "balance."

Eventually, all the old bigots will die off, hopefully before I do, and I can witness one more tick towards a collective sanity.

The town is in the toilet because it chose to, among other things, embrace corrupt leaders, and pander to the "we need to be close to the Interstate" crowd.

Illegals aren't really that much of an issue here. If they were, you'd have a far larger outcry than Mal with his sign, or Westrum with his beyond-poorly-produced TV ads, and some kooks ranting on some obscure message board. But I'm sure you're all giving it your best effort. :p

Isn't that pretty much how most protests go? Sometimes they throw in some chanting or a drum circle, but other than that, unless they become violent, most protests aren't very exciting.

Even Occupy Wall Street in NYC wasn't that "active" when I was there -  a bunch of people sitting and standing in the park holding up signs, singing, and chanting. That might have been because of the police perimeter, but they weren't that rowdy or anything.

The owner of the sign is expressing his opinion as he can.  No different than the guy who drives around with an Obama/Biden bumper sticker on his car, the guy who wears a Red Sox ball cap or the one with bars and stars in his back window.  They are expressing their opinion in ways they are able.

I don't see anyone here belittling those people.  Is it just because this person is able to show his opinion in a bigger way?  I'd be willing to bet, few if any of you have met and spent any time visiting to him.  I don't know him well, but have listened to him.  I don't always agree with his opinions.  But that is what they are, opinions.  He just choses to express them on a more grandeur scale than most of us would or could.  Until someone signs an executive order saying otherwise, he still has a right to his opinion.

Break The Law or You’re Fired ! ICE Agents Sue Feds…

Oathkeepers ?

WASHINGTON - Saying they’re fed up with being told they can’t do their jobs, 10 immigration agents on Thursday sued the Obama administration to try to halt the president’s new non-deportation policy and an earlier memo instructing them not to go after rank-and-file illegal immigrants.

The lawsuit, filed in a federal court in Texas, adds a legal controversy to the political fight that has been brewing over President Obama’s immigration policies, which have steadily narrowed the range of immigrants the government is targeting for deportation.

The 10 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and deportation officers said Mr. Obama’s policies force them to choose between enforcing the law and being reprimanded by superiors, or listening to superiors and violating their own oaths of office and a 1996 law that requires them to demand proof of legal status from those they suspect are not in the country legally.   < Break the Law or You're Fired. >
