"With respect to the notion that I can just suspend deportations (of immigrants brought here illegally as children) through executive order, that's just not the case, because there are laws on the books that Congress has passed." — President Obama, March 28, 2011

Those laws remain on the books. They have not changed. Yet Obama last week suspended these very deportations — granting infinitely renewable "deferred action" with attendant work permits — thereby unilaterally rewriting the law. And doing precisely what he himself admits he is barred from doing.

Obama had tried to change the law. In late 2010, he asked Congress to pass the Dream Act, which offered a path to citizenship for hundreds of thousands of young illegal immigrants. Congress refused.

Well, tonight, as Yogi would have best said it, "It's like déjà vu all over again."

I know it's premature to shoot the wad until after King George has spoken tonight.  But the anticipation is not if, but how much of the Constitution his highness will attempt to disseminate violate.

That's right Sir KIA.  I suspect he will spread his idea of how he wants to interpret the Law today.  Not how he understood it a couple years ago.

Or perhaps he'll just "come" all over the Constitution.  You know.  To show the respect he really has for it.

Many that have a legal green card may still be exempt because of their temporary status.. Many go back to Mexico or other countries in the winter..

Those without a green card or an expired visa getting paid under the table with cash will have to pay taxes and penalties if they sign up to avoid being deported..

They have to prove they have lived here for at least 5 years..

I can give 350 plus reasons why the House hasn't taken up Harry's immigration bill.  Unfortunately, what's been dying in the Senate the last couple years wasn't Reid.

It should be plain and simple.  If you're here illegally, you go back.  If you've broken more laws than entering this country illegally, you go to jail or should be deported depending on the crime.  If you're caught here the third time illegally entering this country you're...well, trust me.  There wouldn't be a fourth time.

For the most part the actions of these Republican presidents wasn't amnesty, it was enlarging the quota of immagrants from selected countries.  If you knew your history a little better you would have noticed that these quota ajustment coincide with political considerations of the cold war and other international political  crisis.  For the most part they wern't granting amnesty to people who had entered our country illegaly!

Its proven that 11 million people are in this country illegally from many countries and have been here for decades..

Illegal amnesty has existed under both democrats and republicans for decades.. Our economy depends on them..

To have economic growth, we need to continually increase the amount of people that spend their incomes to survive..

Our economy can't afford to lose 11 million customers because without them we'll go out of business..

You're right.  Obama can't give them amnesty without Congressional backing.  That would be breaking the law.

< Steps to Become an American Citizen >

Gaining U.S. citizenship can provide many opportunities for a resident of the United States. Among these are access to a U.S. passport, the right to vote in public elections, and protection from deportation. However, becoming an American Citizen requires a few steps, from establishing your eligibility to filing, fingerprinting, attending an interview, passing tests of your knowledge of English and of U.S. civics, and attending an oath ceremony.

Step One: Find Out Whether You Are Eligible to Become a U.S. Citizen

The first question is whether you have a U.S. green card (lawful permanent residence). With very few exceptions, you must obtain a green card before you become eligible to apply for citizenship. So if you haven't yet reached this point, learn about your eligibility by reading "Eligibility for a U.S. Green Card."

As a lawful permanent resident, you must meet additional requirements in order to be eligible for U.S. citizenship. These concern the length of time you've spent in the U.S. as a green card holder, your good moral character, your ability to pass a test in English and on U.S. history and government, and more. To check on whether you are eligible, see "Who is Eligible to Become a Naturalized U.S. Citizen?"

Step Two: Overcome Barriers to Your Ineligibility

You may discover that you are not eligible to become a citizen just now. Perhaps you can't show good moral character because you committed a minor crime (though not a major enough one to make you deportable). Or perhaps you broke the continuity of your residence by spending too long outside the United States. It may be that simply waiting longer will make you eligible for citizenship, or you may need to take other steps to make you eligible. Consult an immigration attorney for a full analysis.

See our article, "On What Grounds Can I Be Denied U.S. Citizenship?", for common reasons your citizenship would be denied.

Step Three: Filing USCIS Form N-400

Once you have established your eligibility, you need to file some paperwork with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The N-400 is the form to get the process started. As of early 2014, it cost $595 to file the application for naturalization, plus an $85 biometrics fee. You will need to attach a copy of your green card.

Once your application has been accepted, you will be mailed a date for your fingerprinting and biometrics.

See our tips for filing the N-400 to find out what to expect.

Step Four: Fingerpinting

In order to process your application, a background check will have to be performed. You will be given a date and address to a local office where you will be fingerprinted. Your fingerprints will be run through the FBI for a background check.

Step Five: Citizenship Interview

After your fingerprinting, you should receive an appointment date and address for an interview with a UCSIC officer. During this interview, the officer will go through your N-400 and confirm your answers to all the questions. The officer will also test your knowledge of English and of U.S. civics. To help prepare, read "Preparing for the Naturalization Interview."

Step Six: Oath Ceremony

If you are approved at (or soon after) your interview, congratulations. But you are not a citizen quite yet. You will be called in for a large public ceremony, at which you and others will be given the oath, in which you swear loyalty to the United States. Then you will be given a certificate of naturalization, showing that you are a U.S. citizen.

All that drivel aside...dealing with the illegal immigration issue is being done back assword anyway.
There are 3 issues as I see it
1.  Unsecured northern border
2.  Unsecured Southern border
3.  Current Illegal residents

You can't address #3 until 1 and 2 have been fixed.  We've been doing #3 for decades, by numerous presidents from both parties and we still end up in the same predicament...

I have used this analogy before but it really as simple as having two holes in your roof leaking water while it's raining.  One hole is bigger than the other and the carpet is ruined.  You don't replace the carpet (current illegals living here) until you fix the holes in your roof (both borders).
The southern border is obviously the larger/worst of the two holes so you gotta fix that one first. Then address the 2nd one (Northern border).

Posted by Expatriate on Dec. 05 2014,11:32 am
^^you’ll never seal the borders completely, they’re here for employment, strengthen E-verify,
it’s the employers of illegals who need to be punished, when the jobs dry up so will illegal immigrants.

Posted by Glad I Left on Dec. 05 2014,12:22 pm
I agree expat, we won't, but the way they are now isn't helping.  And I concur with you on punishing companies that willfully exploit the illegal workers.

Let me rephrase that.  Obama has been destroying the US economy for 7 years.

Who's hiring? Almost everyone

It seems like everywhere you look businesses are hiring. About 70% of U.S. industries added jobs in November.

That explains how the U.S. economy added 321,000 jobs in November, blowing past even the most optimistic expectations. The government's monthly jobs report released Friday showcased that 2014 is heading to become the best year for job growth this century.

HIring was more widespread in November than any time since early 1998. By comparison: this time five years ago, 86% of U.S. companies were cutting jobs.

"It's about time," said Dan North, chief economist with credit insurance firm Euler Hermes. "This is what we've been missing."

Consumers are spending again in a year of strong economic growth, driven by low energy prices and pent-up demand for cars and homes.

Job openings are almost at a 13-year high as companies try to meet the latest wave of demand.

Businesses are asking their employees to work longer hours and moving some part-time workers to full-time status. Employers say they expect to be adding jobs in 2015 as well.

Very few are cutting staff. Those include department stores and electronics chains that are losing ground to online shopping or other competitors. Also trimming jobs are textile and clothing manufacturers and coal mining companies. Some government employers, including local schools and state governments, are also cutting jobs.

Yepper, a couple more years and he'll really have us in the tank.

Well, these companies that a hiring should have lots of applicants considering there's a 62.7% labor partisipation rate, hasn't been this low since Carter.

Republicans have tried for nearly 7 years to destroy Obama and the US economy for political gain..

Another dumbass comment by alcitizens.

Republitards refuse to support any jobs plan that would improve our infrastructure while interest rates are low..

You goofballs like to wait for much higher interest rate costs and a job market that costs more..

Companies are spending big on capital improvements while cash is cheap.. Good businessmen know when to spend so they can compete and not fall behind their competition..

Dumbass Republicans are destroying this country..

No, Liberals and dems( and a lot of repubs) make it a problem for everyone.

Some would give Bambino a lot of credit for throwing so much mud into the creek to muddy up the water as much as he possibly can before the new Congress takes over.

Today thousands of illegal undocumented aliens will line up to get driver's licenses in many states, particularly Arizona where liberal federal appeals court judge ruled over Gov. Brewer and Arizona's policy.  I guess I didn't realize that state driver's licenses were controlled by federal government policies.  :dunno:

< 1st day illegal immigrants can apply for driver's licenses >

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Lines formed Friday at state Department of Motor Vehicles offices around San Diego County, the first day that illegal immigrants can apply for driver's licenses.

With the beginning of the new year, California became the 10th state to offer such licenses to people who cannot establish legal U.S. residency.

Longtime immigration advocate Enrique Morones said all the documentation does is give the immigrants a right to drive a vehicle.

"People have not stopped driving," Morones told 10News. "People are driving to and from work, dropping their kids off at school, and I want to be sure that person driving next to me knows the rules, has passed their driving test, has insurance and has registration."

Without licenses, illegal immigrants faced hundreds of dollars in fines and the impounding of their vehicle if caught driving.

Morones' group, Border Angels, is helping to set up DMV appointments. Applicants need to be able to prove their identification, show they live in California via rental agreements or utility bills, provide a thumbprint, and pass the usual tests needed to acquire a drivers license.

While the written test is available in several languages, the road test will be given in English, according to the DMV.

The licenses authorized by AB 60, signed by Gov. Jerry Brown, will include text saying they are not valid for federal purposes, like obtaining a passport or boarding a passenger aircraft.

The DMV, which expects around 1.4 million applications, hired 900 new employees to handle the workload.

"DMV is committed to successfully implementing this new law to increase safety on California roads by putting licensed drivers behind the steering wheel," said agency Director Jean Shiomoto. "Californians planning to apply for a new driver license under AB 60 should study for their exams and gather the required documents for proving identity and residency."

The DMV, which will begin Saturday hours tomorrow to handle drivers license applications, increased the window to make appointments from 45 days to 90 days and opened four license processing centers.

So now just because they have a driver's license the government thinks they will have insurance?  And prove of identity?  All these illegals have to do is show a rent or utility bill to show they live there and a thumb print and proof of identity?

This is what Obama is giving us?  Illegals made easy to vote.  Sh!t, when I went to get me license, the license clerk (who I went to school with) made me provide four forms of identification to prove I was a legal resident.  That's fricking bullsh!t.

New York Police Officer Wenjian Liu was remembered as an incarnation of the American dream: a man who had emigrated from China at age 12 and devoted himself to helping others in his adopted country.

Liu, 32, had served as a policeman for seven years and was married just two months when he was killed with his partner, Officer Rafael Ramos, on Dec. 20. Liu's longtime aspiration to become a police officer deepened after the Sept. 11 terror attacks, his father, Wei Tang Liu, said through tears.

Members of Congress from both parties expressed outrage Tuesday (July 7) that a man deported five times and convicted of nine felonies was released from prison by San Francisco officials 1 ½ months before he allegedly shot and killed a 32-year-old woman at one of the city's popular tourism spots.

Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez pleaded not guilty Monday to first-degree murder charges in last week's shooting of  Kathryn Steinle, 32. Steinle was shot while walking with her father and a family friend on Pier 14 in San Francisco last week. Sanchez, who was deported back to his native Mexico five times, only to return each time, has admitted to the shooting, but told a San Francisco TV station it was an accident.

Some people are doing some serious ass covering in San Fransico County after this debacle.  The alien in question was already in ICE coustady when they recieved a request from San Francisco that he had an outstanding warrant for drugs.   ICE turned him over with the proviso that he be returned to their coustady when San Francisco was done with him.  ICE also placed an additional detainer on him to insure he would be returned.  The county of San Francisco chose to ignore both the request and the detainer and released this guy to the streets without letting ICE know.  Their first excuse that if ICE wanted him so bad they should have put a warrant out for him, instead of a detainer, didn't wash.  Usually when a law enforcement agency places a detainer on someone it is recognized as a legal hold on someone and they detaining agency is supposed to be notified.  Then San Francisco county said if ICE wanted him so bad they should have had a vehicle waiting to pick him up when they let him go.  Well do they have a longterm parking lot with sleeping accomedations out side their jail for law enforcement use?  Because they failed to inform ICE they were releasing this guy so I guess ICE and other law enforcement agencies have to do stackouts on the San Francisco County Jail to catch the people when they are released?  I hope that young woman's family sues the hell out of San Francisco County and wins.  Also this hopefully will put an end to this sanctuary city BS!

The problem with suing a govt. entity is, they do not get any punishment out of it. It is not their money. That is the same way when huge corporations get sued, they just absorb it. About like a bee sting. Hurts for ten minutes and you think about something else. These people, need to be held accountable!

Trump may now be a persona non-gratis with Mexicans, he’s also received criticism from a fellow mogul. Rupert Murdoch,
Rupert Murdoch, a media tycoon and the creator of FOX Broadcasting Company, called out Trump on Monday for his comments on Mexicans.

Murdoch’s tweet:

Mexican immigrants, as with all immigrants, have much lower crime rates than native born. Eg El Paso safest city in U.S. Trump wrong.

The problem with your information and Murdoch's is that Trump was referring to the crimes committed by ILLEGAL immigrants not legal.

You don't think Murdoch has an empire to protect?

Even Anderson Cooper misreported what Trump said, committing journalism malpractice.  Murdoch is worried that the Hispanic community will believe the propaganda.  I mean, you believed it right?

Totally agree. In the good ole days a comedian was given the opportunity to develop a joke with a story. Today a scatter-brained audience hasn't the focusing power to listen for more than 15 seconds.

SB, hey, I'm no fan of the hordes crossing our borders either. It's when jackoffs like Trump put out cheap slurs (cuz he can afford it) and the herd jumps on the slurry wagon. There are REAL and more serious problems with this mass exodus across the world. Australia(which I agree) is getting heat due to its refusal to admit floaters.

All these overpopulated corrupt failed nations have no need for much of their population. Glad to see them leave. Even with all the jobs sent overseas from the West. Another failure of globalization, backed by idiots like Trump.

An illegal immigrant charged with attempted murder in Ohio was set free earlier this month after the U.S. Border Patrol declined to take him into custody.

Authorities indicate that more felony charges against the man may be forthcoming.
