Is there anything new on when the Hot Dog House will open?  Last I saw the owner was waiting for something from the State.

I think he called into Party Line on Friday and said he was opening June 1, or something like that.

No one called in to Party Line and announced this. I have this directly from Uncle Darrel.
Posted by Ajax on May 20 2012,8:10 pm
Maybe it's just going to be a tax write off for the guys other buisness?

Okay. I thought someone had told me they heard him call in. Maybe they said something later in the day, and not on Party Line?

I don't listen to the radio at work (too much interference to get reception). Did anyone else hear anything about this?

Another "Party-line" rumor debunked. lol

Darrell did make a comment the other day to someone who had heard that the new Kwik Trip wasn't going to open now about the Albert Lea rumor mill.

It would be interesting to see where more rumors surface - here or on Party Line. My guess would be on Party Line.

June 1st you will be able buy yourself a gourmet wiener and other fine foods at the Hotdog House. I think, I just heard it "on the street"

I was gonna say, I saw a Thompson electric van as well as a couple of other good sign things in the past couple of days. My kids sure do have it opening in their best interest...LOL!!

What is this about the new KT not opening?? Why???

I've heard that one too, but it seems unfounded. They did tear down the old Mobil station now, so you would think they'd be starting construction soon.

Then again, Flying J was breaking ground on the land they had bought, and pulled out altogether.

EDIT: My previous post was ambiguous. I meant that Darrell had made a comment about the Albert Lea rumor mill to a caller who had heard that it wasn't going to open.

Heard kt has to wait until the Bridge street study is done and the building permit won't be issued till then. Just a Rumor again lol

Rumor has it that y'all are full of crap..  :D

Hot dogs will be the new staple for Albert Leans who can afford to eat out. The lines will be staggering. No weapons allowed in line please.

What's for dessert? That's what I wanna know.

Some people like to eat that first.

At least that is what I have had a few people tell me they prefer to do.

According to them: They were prioritizing matters by importance, in their opinion. lol

Something of that nature anyway.

"I heard" a place specializing in desserts was moving into the old Great Grains place downtown. It will be called "Just Desserts". It will be the place to go after you've gone to pretty much any other restaurant in town. Or before you've gone there. Or whatever.

Actually, I didn't hear anything like that at all. I just made it up now. On that note - I wonder if we could START a rumor here about something that is coming to Albert Lea and see how fast it gets around. It would be a neat social experiment.

That would really be quite a drastic swing: from Great Grains to fattening desserts.

I think your rumor was magnificent nonetheless.

In fact it was so good, that even after you debunked it as being made-up, I'm still convinced it's true. lol

KT is waiting for Sue Miller to agree to put in a Stop Light.  I gather that Sue and Hy Vee don't agree that one is needed.  I guess that Sue has never tried to turn South from either the Mall or Hy Vee after 5:00 PM.  Entering onto Bridge any place down there is a problem.
Posted by usmcr on May 29 2012,7:51 pm
if i am not mistaken i think that the state has to sign off on any stop lite installation on bridge st beings that it is a state aid street.  i do think that there needs to be some type of traffic control on that particular section between the hy vee store & the hy vee gas station. there is way to much cross traffic going in to many angle directions!  i would think that kt would be getting a little nervous after spending over a million for that property! it is about time that something is done & stop the studying of the issue over & over again. imho service roads with limited access onto bridge street is the way to go. in the short term maybe barriers installed in the center of the road to control the cross traffic would be workable. plaza st also needs to be rerouted as well.
Posted by hymiebravo on May 30 2012,6:44 am
In spite of all the, real or imagined, obstacles - KT will probably still be up and running before the Dog House. lol

It is now July 23 and the Hot Dog House still hasn't opened.  I drove by there today
and see they are now working on the roof.  Any idea at all when, and if, they will open. :(

They were putting in AC the other day and they've been running ads in the Shopper about someone who's going to be "back" at the Hot Dog House.

Almost the end of September and the Hot Dog House is still not open.  Whenever I drive past there are always cars around but no sign that it is opening.  Does anybody know what is going on.   :(

Food service trucks have been making deliveries these past few weeks. Odd that they aren't open with all that work going on.

Maybe they aren't actually a restaurant. Maybe they just live there and order their food from a restaurant supply company. Hence "House" being included in the name of the place.  :p

On a more serious note, I know people who work across the street from the Hotdog House. That's where I get what information I know. One of them had it "on good authority" that they were going to open this past Monday. I guess it wasn't on THAT good of authority.

Were they not having so many deliveries going there, I'd think they were going to end up not opening at all. We'll see. I am guessing it will be at least November.

Posted by Whiskero on Sep. 27 2012,8:48 am
Let's hope they put the hotdogs in the cooler.
Posted by sumpdump on Sep. 27 2012,9:29 am
Herd  they are now under investigation by FBI, for mob activity. The hot dog house is a transport / disposal drop for those who have gone underground.  This morning they were talking about digging up the pavement for Jimmy Hoffa's location. Things go in, but nothing comes out.:p

Enjoyed the Tavern's(Maid-Rite) Chicken was OK, Hot Dogs have too big of buns(Teeny Weeny) tasty Weeny.. They were out of fish.. Check to make sure you get what you ordered..

Orders take a long time to get and can be cold, but the Maid-Rites are worth the wait..

I would have to give them a 3 out of a 5 star rating..

I give the old Food N Fuel a 4 out of 5 star rating.. I like their Catfish and Chicken..

I'm Conservative.. :D

I thought Food and Fuel chicken was nasty, they use chicken that has broth injected so it has a day old chicken soup taste to it.

KFC does that too, yep, it's nasty.  :(

They are both sold by weight. Hot dogs are sold in varying sizes, by the pound. If you buy the cheap ones (made from Play-Doh, sold as "Fun Dog Franks"), I think there are 12 to a pound.

Buns are also available in varying sizes.

Source: Having worked in the past at both Hudson Foods (now called Cargill, I think) and in the bakery at County Market.

I was going to post this earlier but realized the question was a joke of sorts. However, since we're still talking about it...

I've only eaten at both places once.. When I can get fried chicken for $1.00 per piece, I'm in.. Hot Dog House is $1.00 per piece.. Must not be injected because it's really dry or it's stuck under those hot lights too long..

I went in yesterday for the first time.  Ordered the Viena Hot Dog.  Got there about 1:00 P.M. and it wasn't busy.  Got my hot dog quickly, it was warm, got what I asked for on it and it was good.  I have heard stories but my experiance was good.  I'll go back.
Posted by Self-Banished on Oct. 12 2012,1:48 am
Kinda hard to screw up a hotdog.
Posted by Whiskero on Oct. 13 2012,8:42 am
We went yesterday for the first time. We ordered regular hotdogs. They are 2.00 each and includes 2 toppings. Wieners had the casing on. Just right buns.
Very tasty.  Ordered 2 pieces of chicken, just to try it. 1.00 each, ok flavor and ok juicy.  As far as the chicken goes, we prefer Nelson's County Market. Otherwise we will go back and have hotdogs again.

Posted by Self-Banished on Oct. 13 2012,8:53 am
there's just something about the perfect hotdog, skin-on, the right bun, toppings, with me it's catsup, mustard and onions, pure ambrosia. :D

I think either Burger King or Hardee's briefly test marketed them in a few areas, including Albert Lea. I could have sworn I bought one at one of those places 15-20 years ago. It didn't last long, though.

Maybe since most fast food places haven't had them in the past, they don't do well there. On that note, Culver's does have them. But I think Culver's is a higher-tier fast food chain than McDonald's or Burger King.

Are they still asking $250,000 for the business LOL that's an even bigger joke than how they ran that place.
