My guess is that the 2nd tier county employees are not to far behind the salaries of these positions.I would be interested to see a comparison of those salaries with the executives of the 2 largest private businesses in the county. It would also be interesting to see a comparison of the average annual income of local government employees with that of private industry in the area. Posted by hairhertz on Apr. 22 2012,6:39 am
Thank you! Finally some numbers on the school district's bloated administrative costs. Posted by albertlea033 on Apr. 22 2012,9:46 am
The ISD 241 administration costs listed here adds up to a little over 1.3 million dollars. It does not include the athletic director (Funk's crony he got here from his old school), the 2 extra "assistant" principals that Al Root has to do his job for him, the 2 counselors now at the high school (because adding one more grade now means we need another full-time counselor at ALHS), the new glorified librarian position called "Media and Technology Integration Specialist," and various other highly paid positions that really have nothing to do with educating students. Bloated? I'd say so... Posted by Ajax on Apr. 22 2012,10:04 am
Maybe it's time to slice the budget?Attorney Craig Nelson: $95,128 This salary might change again soon if he sues the county for a pay raise like he does almost yearly. Posted by hairhertz on Apr. 22 2012,1:47 pm

Bloated? I'd say so... Yes, thanks for mentioning all of those other assistants/others who suck up classroom $. Years ago there was a secretary who was told at her review that she'd been over-paid because she had too much contact with students. She quit. Seems to sum up the priorities of the district, imho. The farther you get away from actual contact with students, the higher your pay. And we need a "Technology Coordinator" AND a "Director of Computer Information?"We need a "Director of Teaching and Learning?" Isn't that what the Superintendent used to do in most school districts? In many districts, the Superintendent has now taken over the "Director of Community Education" position. And the school district operated for YEARS without a "Human Resources Director" and the sky didn't fall, but with Funk we have to create such a position? Dr. Funk would not know what to do in front of a room full of kids. He would try his military stuff, and the threats of "I'll leave this place" and other intimidation that he uses with the school board, but when that didn't work he would call for help from those that make far less $$ that he does. A truly classless individual. Posted by grassman on Apr. 23 2012,5:54 am
That is because in today's world, success is to surround yourself with people who are smarter than you, but collect the big bucks.

What is the nature of Funk's job with the National Guard? Is it part-time or full-time? Wasn't there an article about him being in charge of something at the state level? Is this a weekend thing like local guards?
