After much uncertainty it is now confirmed. Bret Michaels, front man and singer/songwriter for the rock group, Poison, will be performing at JAXX this Sunday evening.

Showtime is 8pm. Kat Blue will be the opening act. Tickets are $20.00 and you must be 21 or over.

Please come support a major artist coming to Albert Lea. This is a rare opportunity for the Albert Lea community to host an entertainer of this caliber, and especially at an intimate venue such as Jaxx.

The board cockbite should be there...

afterall - Bret Michaels is a well known doper...

Eddie Cochran left Albert Lea and became famous. Bret Michaels WAS famous for a while, then came to Albert Lea.
Posted by Big Hit on Jun. 14 2005,7:10 pm
Bret Micheals could be the poster child for Albert Lea Dirts.  I am sure they will be out in full force and the bar on Sunday.

Again unless Bret's website and the original post are wrong.  It is Sun the 19th not Sat the 18th as the Forum calendar has it.

Hey, come on.  The guy is playing here on a day off.  In between gigs. On his way to Minneapolis and said I'll do it.  I think it is cool that he is playing at Jaxx.  Most of the rockers like Michaels don't need the cash but just love playing for the fans.  He can still play and sing.  A good crowd just makes for an opportunity to get more musicians here.  Nice job Jaxx!

No kidding. Just tell me that he hasn't gone country!!!

Unbelievable how far a major star can slide down the totem pole over time.

TTT,

Unbelievable how fourteen words can nail an entire coffin shut in proving someones premature ejaculations of the mouth with regard to thier oblivious ignorance on a given subject matter.

I would assume you meant that Bret's career is such that he is currently being forced to play assumedly subpar venues such as Jaxx in a less than desirable market such as Albert Lea because he has slid so far down the totem pole that this is his only option to pay his bills.

Thus proves the point.

Red Rocker pretty much hit the nail on the head with his post. Bret still has the star status to sell out major arenas worldwide. He doesn't need this gig. Or any of the gigs on his current solo tour. Here is an individual who has garnered astronomical success (22 million albums sold), has had his house recently featured on MTV Cribs, (and its not a three-bedroom rambler), has a movie production company with Charlie Sheen, has penned songs for numerous other stars, "knew" Pam Anderson WAY before Tommy Lee (and actually succeeded in keeping that video private), was a judge on Nashville Star (hosted by Leann Rimes; no slouch either, and performed numerous duets with her) and was just featured on the cover of Billboard Magazine, a Zine about what's hot in the music industry.

Wouldn't really call that "sliding down the totem pole". Bret is a unique artist and has garnered his success because of his devotion to his art and doing what he loves: Music.

He has had tremendous success as a singer/songwriter with Poison, and still tours with the group. He also has a passion for his solo music, which leans toward the "Americana" genre of music. Not really country, but still rootsy. Think Mellenkamp, the Geardaddies, and the Jayhawks.

So why come to Albert Lea and play a venue such as Jaxx?

It's not money. Guaranteed. And it's not because he's "slid down the totem pole".

Bret likes to play his music for people. He is infamous for being an everyday Joe and hanging out with people at shows, signing autographs and yapping with fans until they're gone. Drives security staffs nuts!

I think its great! Knowing you can sell out 20,000 seat arenas and still desiring to play to 400 people in a small town bar and WANTING to meet everyone that attends the shows and talk to them.

WOW! Pretty rare for an artist nowadays.

True, Jaxx isn't a "pro-level" venue per se. But they've managed to pull off some "national" acts (Great White, Warrant, Firehouse) for SOME reason. And its attitudes like yours that will keep this town in the dark ages as far as entertainment and "something to do" goes.

I wonder how many people will book hotel rooms on that night, eat at local establishments, shop at stores, buy gas, etc., during this event. Sure, not millions of dollars worth, but its something. And it can't help but be an economy boost for the community.

And I wonder what type of risk the owner is taking in booking a show of this type knowing that there are cynical pessimists such as you out there that are content to bitch and moan about all things unfair and not conforming to your personal agenda because you are uncontent with your lot in life? At least they're trying to shake a little life into this town and put it on the map by trying to draw outside business in from a regional standpoint. Because the town itself is currently not in the position to support a show of this type on its own. But thats where the ball starts rolling ever so slowly. Economic development can come from many sources. Existing businesses included. And we, as a community, should support that development as a whole, regardless of wether we choose to participate or not. Bringing outside dollars in is a benefit. No matter how its sliced, it creates a bigger pie.

It's a sad thing that you have been resigned to feeding off the negativity of this forum in order to satisfy the craving for attention that has somehow escaped you.

Though, I must admit, it can be somewhat entertaining.

I have witnessed psychologically deprived adolescents deploying the same patterns of rebellion as you employ here.

Before you choose to denegrate an individual or situation again, I would suggest that you humble yourself to asking some questions, or gathering some facts about an issue before piping in, or trying to hijack an issue to a certain topic of which you presumably feel enlightened enough about to feel superior to those who aren't as "enlighted" as you.

Your comment on this issue was so thoughtlessly insulting to so many people on so many levels, and one so full of self-flatulating, ego-tripping, misguided ninkompoop, that I can't fathom the self-defeatists depth of moronic ignorance that crossed your brainwaves unchecked before you uttered such a sickly sadistacal attempt at soothing your inner demons.

Hope to not see you at the show! And it may be time for a name change.

I'll have to call your bluff on that one. Are you his agent?

Posted by red rocker on Jun. 17 2005,12:33 pm
I don't think flurry is anyone agent but just someone who knows the facts.  Though Michaels made a good living during his hay-day he has made the transformation from rock star to business man.  Most people in the music industry have a hard time doing that because they usually spend all of their money, owe the record company money(from signing bonuses, yes that money has to be paid back) or are so naive that they think  this kind of lifestyle goes on forever, which in most cases it doesn't.  After spending nearly 15 years in the music industry I saw it happen all the time.  Hats off to Bret Michaels for stopping in our city for the evening.

And it's not just the arena concert rockers that are in decline...

Fifteen years ago a local band could get $400, a room and a bartab. I used to live on gig proceeds alone. Nowadays it's hard to find a $300 one-nighter, and you still have to pay for your drinks.

Well, except in Walters, where we got a few gigs because one of your own cancelled at the last minute.

Thanks again, Ross!

Posted by GEOKARJO on Jun. 17 2005,1:07 pm
Ross Has been missing for a while. One night the LEC had his place surrounded and knocking on the door when they went in no one was there and his ankle braclet was cut from his leg laying of the floor.

Hey, I like Brett and CC. Brett partied hard on diabetes and lived to tell about it. No, seriously, I'm just joking. I think it's great that ANYONE with a name comes to town or anywhere near the area. I'f I had a club, I'd be bringing up some Houston area DJ's and rappers in the DJ Screw, Mike Jones, Slim Thug, Paul Wall vain. It's hot right now. And I'd record every show so I'd original live chit mange.

You must be the owner of Jaxx?

Posted by red rocker on Jun. 17 2005,2:02 pm
No, just someone who appreciates talented musicians that take the time to stop in a small city to play when they don't have to.  Most of the time these "not planned" gigs turn out to be the best ones.
PS TTT, be careful of those live recordings, there are copyright laws.  Just ask the good folks at NAPSTER!

Posted by FlyguyAL on Jun. 17 2005,8:16 pm
I just thought this should be repeated.  Just in case there were those like me who were interupted before you got to the end.

Right, as if they would come to Albert and play, and two, like a dump like Raxx makes enough money to get those thugs in there.

Anybody attend the concert and if so, how was it?  a little review would be appreciated, thanks

Hunter said there are pictures of it on power96's website.

I thought it was GREAT! the crowd was a little small but what do you expect for a Sunday?
I was a little disappointed he didn't sing more of his solo stuff. That is what I wanted to hear more of. But of course the Poison hits he sang were awesome! Brought back a lot of memories...... I was young but a huge fan!
Well on my way to check out pics on power96's website.......

For all you old school rockers...Journey is coming to Mankato in 3 weeks on their 30th anniversary tour.  They might be in wheelchairs & gray but I bet they still sound fantastic.
I saw Boston in Mankato a few months back, the acoustics in the civic center there are supurb, that venue is perfect size & really works  for concerts.

Would love to see Journey but, Steve Perry left them 10 yrs ago and It just wouldn't be the same without him. Get over the fact that others have different musical tastes than you Big Hit. Some day perhaps you will have that nasty comment put to you for your tastes.

Oh Big Hit, you have such a way with words.

I'm not a huge Journey fan but I'll admit to liking them, sure.  It is OK to like lots of diferent & types of music.  What I really enjoy more is quality live music.  I understand, you live in Albert Lea so you really have no concept of quality live music, it's OK.  Am I saying Journey is "quality live music"?  Not sure, I have never seen them live before.  Someone must because I doubt they'd be on tour right now otherwise.

I am looking out for you & your entertinament needs Big Hit, I have you covered.  Click on this link for tickets to something more up your alley.

Have to admit that I have been to quite a few reunion tours in the last few years. A bit disappointed when there are not all the originals. Met and partied with Head East in the late 70's. hear they are going to be at Harmony Park. Any fill-ins? Probably...They did have a few good songs though.
