Becoming a better person in 2011
by selfchi on January 2, 2011

You may have spent the first day in 2011 getting over your hangover, or at least woke up seriously late. Not that the new year is finally here, you find yourself without the energy for launching effortful new self-improvement projects and following thru with the new years resolutions. Relax, it is ok, says The Guardian.

If you know you will default on your New Year resolutions as it happens ever year, then abandon them … today!

If you’ve made any new year resolutions, that you deep down know you are likely not to achieve them, steal a march on the rest of the world by abandoning them today, rather than waiting a week or two for the moment when everyone else’s will inevitably collapse in a quagmire of failed hopes, self-reproach and packets of Pringles. The lure of making a ‘complete fresh start’ can be hard to resist, and gleaming-eyed self-help gurus pander to that urge. In fact, aiming for across-the-board change — to get fitter, eat better, spend more time with the family, all at the same time — is exactly the wrong way to change habits.

Willpower is a unitary, depletable resource, which

First of all, I do not fish, but I hope your business does well.

That said, some friends of mine who do fish (but who didn't want to create an account here for one post) stopped in your shop recently.

They said you provided good service and had good prices - but half of the minnows they bought there were dead by the time they got to Albert Lea Lake, and the other half died while they were on the lake.

Other than all the minnows dying, they said they had a great experience with your shop. Not sure if it was an isolated incident, but it might be something you want to look into.

You need to run a battery powered aerator in your minnow bucket. Problem solved. I know virtually everything.

If you don't keep them cool an aerator won't help much. I always keep some bottles of frozen water in my freezer for my bait bucket, and I keep all my bait in a refrigerator.

Not sure if they are doing that or not - I know they regularly fish and they wanted to try the new bait shop. I'll pass on the info, if they haven't read your post already. (They lurk, but don't post.)

Wondering if anyone has tried the Berkley Gulp Alive.  I'm thinking they might work pretty good on panfish.

Hi All~  I am the one who had "name" post for me.  We are not amateur fishermen.  We had the minnows over the side of the boat while we were fishing...a practice that has been used for many, many years.  Too bad the minnows didn't make it...we will give Bubba's another try regardless.  (Another note...we went from Stevens Street to the Albert Lea Lake boat landing to launch our boat...not enough time for minnows to die...)

Unfortunate time of year for minnows, "it is spawning season". The fatheads tend to dye off after the mating ritual, the male species has come to the end of their natural live expectancy. This natural event will come to an end come late June. I Worked for Greg Oswald for  7 years part time in the summers delivering minnows. I have some experience with bait.
