Personally, I am dumbstruck.

For what?  The man hasn't done anything to warrant the award.  Unless one get an award for darn near destroying a countries economy.  :dunno:

Still, he has to be congratulated for his achievement.  :D

Did I hear correctly that he was nominated less than two weeks into the presidency?

Oh what foresight?

Afterall, we did congratulate O.J. after his verdict, didn't we?

Remember he did lift a cloud of tyranny from the United States no more W and Dick Cheney.

We are now new, in a new state of enlightenment, wherein we are all are made of moonbeams and never-ending tenderness, with nothing than compassion in our hearts and the light of Justice for all.

Regardless of  the immigration status or gross adjusted income, Obama is viewed as the inescapable, unrelenting, voice of truth and understanding flowing from his administration, as sunlight upon the deepest oceans.

They got it right for once, forget about Al Gore.

Aside from that, I am with many of the others out there wondering what he did two weeks into his Presidency to earn the Nobel. I have absolutely NO idea unless (and, regardless of how this comes out, I am NOT a RACIST) it is because he is the first President of color (and race) that this country has had. Maybe it is phrased differently, but I am seriously wondering if that is not it. I mean, he is not only President, but now head of the UN. What other major accomplishments can he do between now and the end of the year (when he will be in office for a whole year)...stay tuned..more details to come in two months...

Lib- I love this Country and will fight tooth and nail until my last breath has been expelled defending the Constitution of the United States.  What I do hate is our current govt as of late and this goes back before carter, so I have had a long time to hate the Federated powers that be.

I think the Nobel has been cheapened and it is not just the dipsh!t in the whitehouse it has been a few of the selected morons who did not nor would ever deserve the Nobel.

Also big surprise if the mac daddy in the house was to head the un, big deal, the un has no authority here, so let him play the big guy of a organization that is all talk and do nothing, and has no power whats so ever.

I'm not an Obama hater, but I am totally surprised that he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

I was watching some international news where folks interviewed were perplexed that so many Americans are baffled by the award.  The message that I took away from the interviews is that much of world feels that we American critics are racists for disagreeing with the selection.  :frusty:

I was pretty sure if memory served me correctly, one infamous person from our past also received an endorsement for the peace prize.

Here it is.  :D

sent to the Parliment of Norway, Nobel committee
QUOTE
With all respect, I would like to propose the German Reich canceler and Fuhrer Adolf Hitler for Nobel Peace prize for the year 1939, who have enlightened millions of people, and who among all men are worthy of this high honor.

From authentic documents, we can acknowledge that the World peace was in great danger in 1938, and that it was a matter of hour´s that an European war might have started. The man who solved this situation saved our continent, from this enormous catastrophe, was certainly the great leader of the German people. In the critical moment, he freely restrained from exploding mines, even though he had the powers to start a World War.

Out of his love for peace, earlier explained in his famous book Mein Kampf, after the Bible, the literature of the Worlds most outstanding teachings, and his past record of solving conflicts by peaceful means, without spilling blood, with Austria freely coming a part of Germany, we assure he will in critical situations, abstain from using violence, when he moves on to liberate the home longing Germans in Sudetenland , as a part of making his fatherland big and mighty.

It is than very likely, that Hitler, if he is not disturbed by war loving enemies, will in a peaceful manner, fulfill his highest wishes, to see a pacifistic Europe and may be the whole World.

Unfortunately, there are many people, who are not able to see the greatness in Adolf Hitlers effort to bring peace. And I herewith suggest that you as soon as possible give him the Nobel Peace prize, since another group of Parliamentarians in Sweden have suggest another candidate, the Prime Minister of England, Neville Chamberlain.

Such a suggestion does not seems to be well taught through. It is of course correct, that Chamberlain from the goodness of his heart, and his understanding of Hitlers work for peace, have contributed to save Europe from war. But the final hard work and approval, was not with Chamberlain, but with Hitler. It is Hitler, and no one else, who have safeguarded World peace, and whom we have to trust for as the keeper of peace in Europe.

It has to be admitted, that Chamberlain have contributed to peace in Europe, and that you should consider giving him a minor part oft he prize. But see through that the name of the British Prime Minsters do not be permitted to cast shadows on the greatness of Hitler. Adolf Hitler is the greatest leader of our times, a man of God`s mercy, the prince of peace, in whom millions of people have put their trust.

Also, I hear that even though he failed his attemp to win the bid for the Olympics in Chicago in 2016, the Olympic Committee gave him a Gold Medal for Water Polo, as sport in which he says "would be interesting to get involved in". I guess the intention was there and maybe it will inspire him to try...

Oh...this just in...Appearently he was just nominatted for an Oscar for a movie that has yet to be named, or made for that matter. He was spotted recently on a date with his wife at a movie theatre. There must be some intention there. His only comment on the nomination in a recent press conference was " I have done nothing to deserve the nomination but I will accept it as a call to action".

Members of the Norwegian committee that gave Barack Obama the Nobel Peace Prize are strongly defending their choice against a storm of criticism that the award was premature and a potential liability for the U.S. president.

Asked to comment on the uproar following Friday's announcement, four members of the five-seat panel told The Associated Press that they had expected the decision to generate both surprise and criticism.

Three of them rejected the notion that Obama hadn't accomplished anything to deserve the award, while the fourth declined to answer that question. A fifth member didn't answer calls seeking comment.

"We simply disagree that he has done nothing," committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland told the AP on Tuesday. "He got the prize for what he has done."

Jagland singled out Obama's efforts to heal the divide between the West and the Muslim world and scale down a Bush-era proposal for an anti-missile shield in Europe.

"All these things have contributed to — I wouldn't say a safer world — but a world with less tension," Jagland said by phone from Strasbourg, where he was attending meetings in his other role as secretary-general of the Council of Europe.

Aagot Valle, a left-wing Norwegian politician who joined the Nobel panel this year, also dismissed suggestions that the decision to award Obama was without merit.

"Don't you think that comments like that patronize Obama? Where do these people come from?" Valle said by phone from the western coastal city of Bergen. "Well, of course, all arguments have to be considered seriously. I'm not afraid of a debate on the peace prize decision. That's fine."

In Friday's announcement, the committee said giving Obama the peace prize could be seen as an early vote of confidence intended to build global support of the policies of his young administration.

The left-leaning committee whose members are appointed by the Norwegian Parliament lauded the change in global mood wrought by Obama's calls for peace and cooperation, and praised his pledges to reduce the world stock of nuclear arms, ease U.S. conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthen the country's role in combating climate change.

However, the decision stunned even the most seasoned Nobel watchers. They hadn't expected Obama, who took office barely two weeks before the Feb. 1 nomination deadline, to be seriously considered until at least next year.

Former foreign minister Alexander Downer has taken aim at the Nobel Peace Prize committee over its decision to award the latest prize to US President Barack Obama.

Mr Downer described the decision 'a farce' and said Mr Obama should have refused to accept the prize.

"He has been in office for less than nine months when it is announced that he has won the prize, so they would have made the decision a few weeks ago I suppose. It does make the whole system a bit of a farce," he said.

Old Butch
I was in the fertilized egg business. we had several hundred young layers (hens), called 'pullets,' and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs. we kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced. This took a lot of time, so we bought some tiny bells and attached them to the roosters. Each bell had a different tone, so we could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now, We could sit on the porch And fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells.
Our favourite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning we noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all!
When I went to investigate, I saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, could run for cover. To my amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one.
I was so proud of old Butch, we entered him in the Palo Pinto County Fair and he became an overnight sensation among the judges. The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the No Bell Piece Prize but they also awarded him the Pulletsurprise as well. Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making.
Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most highly coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention.
Vote carefully next year, the bells are not always audible.

I didn't want to start a new topic for this, but I had to ask this question.

In talking to a lot of people, the reason they voted Obama in for Pres. was because he promised to get our troops out of the war within 6 months.  Now he is adding 30,000 plus to be sent over there and MAYBE, in 2011, we MAY start to bring them home (according to GMA this a.m.).  What the devil is going on?  Everyone was blaming Bush because he didn't bring the troops home and now Obama isn't either.  I do not understand.  (By the way, I did not vote for Obama).

It's sort of funny that half the kooks like to say that Obama is incapable of being president so they say Rahm Immanuel is running the White House, the other half seems to think that Obama is running the whole show in Washington and should be blamed for anything and everything Congress or the Senate does.

Funny thing is that the local republitards always pointed their finger at Congress whenever someone blamed Bush for anything.

You kooks really need to get on the same page, he's either an idiot with no ability to run a business let alone a Country, or he's some sort of Svengali running the whole show in Washington.

The Nobel Peace Prize committee may soon be looking to redeem themselves after the error made in 2009.  Decisively taking a potential chance at helping to save the Nobel Peace Prize from the disrepute that incurred by the hasty and ill-conceived decision to award U.S. President Barack Obama 2009 award and an unlikely gift to the EU last year, Norwegian Umeå University professor Stefan Svallfors wrote the committee that Edward Snowden should be the next nominee.

QUOTE
< Edward Snowden nominated for Nobel Peace Prize >

A Swedish sociology professor has nominated Edward Snowden for the Nobel Peace Prize, saying that awarding the former NSA employee would correct Nobel Committee’s mistake in giving the award to President Barack Obama in 2009.

According to a translation of the letter published by the Daily Mail and RT.com, Umeå University professor Stefan Svallfors wrote the committee that Snowden has made the world safer in releasing information about United States surveillance.

“Edward Snowden has - in a heroic effort at great personal cost - revealed the existence and extent of the surveillance, the U.S. government devotes electronic communications worldwide. By putting light on this monitoring program - conducted in contravention of national laws and international agreements - Edward Snowden has helped to make the world a little bit better and safer,” Svallfors wrote.

Referencing the Nuremberg trials of Nazis, Svallfors says following orders is not an excuse for acting against human rights and freedom, and he praised Snowden’s courage in leaking the information."
