The Albert Lea City Council on Monday appointed three new faces to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. They are Jean Eaton, Lee Walters and Scott Martin. They will serve three-year terms starting in January.

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meets on the third Monday of each month at 5:15 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation Department offices at City Arena, 701 Lake Chapeau Drive.

Say WHAT?!?!

Who elected these boneheads again?

No, honest. No crooks in government here.

How fugging embarrassing for the whole community.

Is this the best Albert Lea can do? WTF?

Oh come on, it's not like she kidnapped the Lindbergh baby.

How long should she stay out of local government?

I am with Liberal on this issue.  As I recall, after the trail, and not as part of a sentence, she paid for a letter to the paper in which admitted to a problem and asked for forgiveness.  Let those who have done no wrong please step forward.

Please don't insinuate that all 3 of these people have inciduous past's. Scott M. is a fine, upstanding man of this community.

Does the concept of bold defy you?

I'm asking who elected the people that are willing to let her get her fingers back into politics in this city.  I am indifferent to whether she is allegedly guilty, not guiltiy, nolo contendre, or any other half assed plea bargain delt out to those with money available of them.  What bothers me is that her antics last time around all but made this town a laughing stock nationally in several different media formats for quite awhile.  Not the best way to get put on a map

     LOL Eaton for mayor. Lets jump on the bandwagon....Can She do worse than Erdman...I think not.

What bothers me is that Eaton has a history of abusing public funds like with "cookiegate"...her cute name she came up with for her spending CVB money on personal things.

This is not a person to be trusted with public funds in any way shape or form. Hope she has no access to even a stamp and paper clips.

I agree that while she doesn't deserve to be publicly branded or ostracized, I don't believe she should be allowed back into politics.  She has demonstrated her character quite well and shown she is not to be trusted.  No one is saying she shouldn't be able to have a successful life but she should find a way that doesn't involve public funds.

Here's an idea - how about FOREVER?

Jebus, you've gotten so used to corrupt local government, now you encourage more of it. I guess life's just easier that way.

^ I agree CF,  She's paid for her crime, however, she shouldn't be allowed to be put in a position of public trust.

There are plenty of other people in the community that would be willing to get involved.  They're just never asked because they don't hang with the right crowds.  The problem is all to often the various board's in this town turn to the chamber of commerces' most active member's for a feeder system to fill some of these positions.  There are other organizations out there where you can find great people that could help with the decision making and also to help improve the reputation of this city.  I'm tired of seeing some of the same names recycled through different positions around the city, county and various other boards. imo.

After all...isn't that what Albert Lea is trying to do?  Create a positive image? :frusty:

Agreeing with you TTT!

Would those who are so quick to welcome her back extend the same courtesy if the person was a child molester or a crack head who had paid their dues?

I agree CC.  There need to be a more across the board approach  to filling  open board positions not just having the chamber picking there " close personal friends " Well said.

I was at the council meeting last Monday.  There are still openings on a couple of the commissions, Human Rights and Heritage Preservation I think.

If you're interested, fill out an application.  It's that easy.  If you don't volunteer, you most likely won't get asked.

I have a question, I would love to apply for the Human Rights commission but live in the country and out of Albert Lea proper.  Does that automatically disqualify me?

It really shouldn't, anyone who lives in the county should be eligible. Human rights are not just a city issue. After all you must come to Albert Lea to shop and visit the Court House for auto and drivers licenses.  Many of you work in town, and send your children to school in town...Most of you don't spend most of your winters down south!....    :dunno:  ......ned

I would hope people don't wait around to be asked to get involved.  If you want to make a difference get involved.  http://www.city.albertlea.org/boardsandcommissions.htm

Looking at the list of people on city boards and commissions it looks like a good cross section of people.   In my experience people who are on a committee or board are more likely to get involved in other things.

I am tired of hearing people complain but not being willing to stand up and be counted.  It is easier to be the arm chair quarterback then to get in the game, some things never change.

Sorry Gary, I must have missed your name on one of these boards?

You did not miss it at all, but you missed the point.  I am not the one complaining about the evil chamber types taking all the positions.  See the difference?
