I paid my sales tax for the first quarter and filed my return April 22, 2003, it was such a large amount of money to come up with I though I would start paying monthly so  May 22, 2003 I Made a payment and I made a payment July 22, 2003 for the remainder of my sales tax.

The payment made in May was applied by the state to the first quarter which was filed and paid in full leaving an over payment of 138 dollars this payment was to be applied to the second quarter. I clearly stated in my letter this payment was for the second quarter.

Today I went to the websight to file my 3rd quarter sales tax and find I was pentilized fined and interest charge for a mistake made by the state.

Which they have my money and tell me I have to file for a refund.

Shame on you, Geo--criticizing the State!

THEY made the mistake, THEY have YOUR money, and they want to penalize YOU.  As a business, YOU have to collect the money for them, for which you don't get compensation--(I believe even Lottery sales outlets get compensated!).  The higher sales tax puts you at a competitive disadvantage with Iowa, or with articles bought tax-free over the Internet.  This is kind of like the Chinese government, billing the family 25 cents for the bullet they use to execute a prisoner!:p

It will be even better, though, when we get the local option sales tax, as well--not only will we be even LESS competitive, but we will have even MORE unpaid work to do!:p
