Q:     If you look at a map and draw a circle 30 miles out from Albert Lea, from just East of Blue Earth to Minn Lake to Bixby down to Rose Creek and Adams into Northwood and over to Rake what similarities do you see in the circle?

A:     No real progress, no real development.

Look just outside the ring and you see some remarkable progress, especially on the Minnesota side.  Mankato, Janesville, Waseca, Owatonna, Dodge Center, even little Mapleton has nearly the number of new housing starts as Albert Lea.

Albert Lea is a mess and it better get on track soon, other wise it should be content with being an old meatpacker ghost town of 15,000 along the interstate people could care less about.  Towns like that are a dime a dozen.

But we have such a nice new Courthouse.  That must count for something, right?  And look at our school, that will bring in tourists and business, won't it?  I heard it would.

If there is ever a run on the banks or city hall, Sparky, Pam and Gab can lock themselves up in the courthouse!

Yikes, minnow fan.  That's scary.  Maybe we should start a "no rural blight" campaign in AL...

Let's give everyone within 30 miles $200,000 to fix up whatever they want, then it will be such a nice happy place everyone will want to come here and the tourism dollars at $.05 tax will pay for it.  IF we fall short, we can just sell some of our buildings that no one bothered to fix up for $1.00 to Twin City developers to recoup it.   We will be on a roll for the future, selling tickets to our state of the art courthouse.    We can give out complimentary fish too :D

We own a small business in Albert Lea.  How do we get one of these grants to improve our business?  Where do we apply?

Just give Pam a call & tell her you need a hook up!

You own a small business in Albert Lea, you have my respect, it isn't easy to do business here.
How has business been the past 5 years or so?  How much confidance do you have that Albert Lea is on the right track for the future?

Business has been good for us, which is why we think about expanding.  I don't feel Albert Lea will ever grow to be much more than it is right now. Which is not bad but sad that opportunities were missed years ago.  Unless we can fall into something fabulous for the "Farmland" sight I don't see any growth in our city's future.  Don't get me wrong, though, I like Albert Lea.

It's all about how you can demonstrate the jobs you'll create by expanding. There are not only local and state funds available, but federal moneys as well.

Yes, we will tax the worker and give the money back to you if you can hire a few more entry level workers. The whole system is set up to favor the upper end of the income brackets. It's not really fair, but hey, It's our America.
