In Regards to Dr. Burns Letter to the Editor Dated March 26, 2004.Dr. Burns states that Big Tobacco is in Albert Lea.
First of all "Big Tobacco -Is Not- involved or never has contacted or offered financial support to the Freeborn County Freedom to Choose Committee.
As Chairman of the Freedom to Choose Committee I would like to inform the readers as to the reason it was formed. We received a letter inviting us to an informational meeting on the "Hazards of Enviroment Smoke" in the work place. I attended with my friend as to understand better, the hazards and weigh the risk.
I listened and received the handout. The following day I met with Bar owners in Albert Lea and discussed the information presented and we agreed to research that information prior to making a decision as to our stand. I was appointed to research the much condensed information we were given for its validity.
The handout refered to several publications, in which I found available on the internet that the smoke free colotion had based their theroies.
I posted these links on www.albertlea.com/forum paragraph by paragraph and printed all the information and met again with Albert Lea Bar owners and discussed my findings.
At this point we formed, "The Freedom to Choose Committee" and I was appointed chairman. We then asked our customers to join our committee signing a "Freedom to Choose Charter" which is now over 305 members strong.
We do not intend to argue the hazards of smoking with the smoke-free colition.
It is our stand that we bought our businesses, and the land it stands on, without the help of goverment funding or grants. We own our business as much as we own our homes in the residential area. We have property owners rights, as long as it is not against the law the owners have a "Freedom To Choose".
I would like at this point to bring up an interesting point. In the begining of the smoke free colition presentation, Those speaking introduce themselves, and the fact that they were funded by monies from the the lawsuit settlement against the tobacco companies won by the State of Minnesota, the C.A.D.E.T. program as I recall.
I, on the other hand, am not being funded by anyone. So as long as I give Dr. Burns something to dispute he will continued to be paid.

I'm not buying your BS Geo. You're just a redneck and hypocrite. On the one hand you insist apon doing your drugs in enclosed public spaces where you know it affects other non users, while at the same time calling for jail sentences for others who smoke cannabis in the privacy of their own homes.I'm not buying that BS, anymore than I'm buying your sex toys at your soon to be defunkt store.

Oh my lord. Minnow you are circling the drain buddy.Bars are private not public, so the owner can do whatever the hell they want about smoking tobacco. Why, WHY can't you get that?

Don't worry GEO, summer's coming and he'll have to split his "fight" between smoker's and loud airplanes. Loud Harleys are O.K. by him, though.
