As I drove by the channel today I see that the carp have started rising to the top.

I live on State Line Lake just outside of Emmons. We had a total fish freeze out this winter also. Yesterday as I stood in my back yard, I estimated thousands of dead fish in a 200x200 sq. ft. area. Most of the dead fish are carp and range from 8" to 18". Since the area around my yard is the only "open" area of water so far, the fish have seem to collected there. I couldn't help thinking that I hope the rest of the lake opens soon so that I don't have the whole pile of dead carp in my yard this spring. Stink? Not yet, the cold water will assist for awhile yet. The last time this happened here was about three years ago, and the stench was so bad for a couple weeks in the spring, you could hardly be out in the yard. I have a feeling, the Albert Lea area will be worse than here due to the volume of dead fish.

Keep those clothes pins handy for your noses!

Seriously, who is going to clean up the dead fish around the lake? Is the city going to do it? Can these people actually get out of their pickups and clean up the shore?
