Updated: 7:04 p.m. ET March  09, 2004March 9 - The Dollar and Cents Store on south Broadway has been collecting money for a Rochester baby who has a terminal illness. But that money is now gone because a burglar broke into that store early Tuesday morning and stole the fundraising jar. NewsCenter's Asia Zmuda spoke to the store's owner who is also a friend of the baby's family and filed this report.

The owner got a call from police about 3:30 Tuesday morning with news that made him even sadder after he showed up at his store.

Someone broke inside by throwing a rock through the glass door.

Police found out about it from a nearby newspaper deliveryman and the only thing the burglar took is a five-gallon, glass jar, which the owner says had about five hundred dollars in it.

The money was to be given to Lindsey Ronningen's family to pay for her medical expenses.

Lindsay is diagnosed with an illness where her muscles will not fully develop and she is not expected to live past two-years-old.

"These people are friends of our daughter and it's pretty low I mean they could've taken something else.We do have insurance and stuff but this was a pretty low thing to do we felt," said storeowner Lonnie Oeltjen.

Neither the owner nor police know who broke in yet but you may be able to help.

Clothing was found shortly after the burglary. They were in the basement of an apartment complex behind the store and sitting next to the broken jar.

If you have any information police ask you call the KTTC SafeCity Tipline number at 285-8200.Also for any of you who would like to donate some money for Lindsay The Dollar and Cents Store is starting another collection. And this time, the owner will keep the money in a safe.
