I was reading the Tribune yesterday and read about the electronic fish barrier that would stop fish from entering the lake, although mainly targeted at carp. I was thinking "wow, what a great idea, no more carp," until i saw the price, between $300,000 and $600,000 and my jaw dropped. Do we really need an ELECTRONIC fish barrier to stop fish from entering the lake? Why not just a net theat only always fish to leave the lake, not enter?

The new fish barrier sounds like one of the most flagrant wastes of money I have ever heard of in this town. I mean seriously, think about what else they could do with $600,000.

There were probably posts about this in the fish kill thread, but im too lazy to read through them all, and its pretty cluttered too.

Are they talking about keeping fish from coming up the shellrock or from coming down from fountain lake?

If they are talking about stopping fish from going downstream over the dam it will never work, I've seen water flowing over that dam at an incredible rate and all this system would do is shock the hell out of the fish as they wash over the dam. And then they certainly aren't going back upstream for another shock are they?

If they want to stop the carp from coming up the shellrock then it might work but I was under the assumption that they use these electric barriers on navigable waterways where an inexpensive fence or net system might interfere with boats.
