I cannot find the previous topic on him/AL basketball, so I am posting a new topic.  (Moderators: feel free to move this to the other topic if it still exists)

Someone asked if it is worth the price of admission to go see him play.  I say yes, for a few reasons.

For 1 - it answers the question on this board of "What is their to do in this town?"  I went to the game versus Roch. Century, and the crowd was very healthy in size.

For 2 - As the local paper loves to state, he is going to D-I, so it is a good chance to see a local 'hero.'  He holds the record for most points in a career for an AL basketball player, so -based on these facts- he must be pretty good.

For 3 - Coach Addington has the boys playing a style that is fun for the audience to watch.  I do not think I saw more than 4 offensive plays the whole night, but it was enjoyable.  The team plays aggressive D, and looks to get out and run.  The style is up tempo, and is run well.

For 4 - He is a good player - relatively speaking.  He does need to work harder on D, and on improving conditioning (he appears to float at times) as well as improve his jumper, but he has a very quick first step.  He appears to be able to drive by defenders at will.  He is a very solid ball-handler and has a flair for making fancy passes.

For 5 - This is not a one-dimension team: the other Tigers are also good players.  Thorn is very solid all-around and does the little things well - if he had another 4-5 inches or so, he could play at the next level.  Habben is a big body who knows how to play.  Moore is a very good compliment to Woodside - he is a sound shooter and can run the point, giving Woodside a break.  Skophammer should be really good by his senior year.  Behrends seems to continually put up good numbers, and will attack the hoop strong at times.  Keyeski (sp?) has the chance to develop into a very good high school guard by his senior year.  And there are many others whose names I cannot remember right now who know what role they have and play well as a team.

(side-bar) The 9th grader (Dieser) playing JV, could play Varsity this year if he is needed.  He appears to be a total package player and is head-and-shoulders above his level of competition.  Hopefully he continues to improve and does not take his talent for granted.  [The JV team plays well, for JV level, and is worth showing up early to see.]

For a schedule, I would assume that it is on the Albert Lea High School Website.  Probably located under sports.  I have not looked there, but I presume it would be there.

I hope that answers some of the questions I remembered from the other thread.

Is dat you Tom Jones?  Why aint you on the Radio?  How da ya say Dave Klatt?  Where is the color?  How a guy to know who's on First?  That's the problem with Albert Lea, no consistancy.  Talk to me Tom.

Actually, BeBack, I am not Tom Jones.  Sorry to disappoint you.

Where is Tom Jones?  I'm having all kinds of anxiety since he left the radio!  He can't just leave these kids mid season!  We finally got a coach, and a group of fellows that are starting to play like a team and it is like Jones has lost faith.  Come back Tom, all is forgiven.

I just have to comment on that dieser kid. I dont c wat makes him sooo good. I mean he has almost single handledly lost a few of the games for JV. One of the reasons he is on JV in the first place is cuz he dad has to kiss so much a$$. He should stay on the 9th grade team they kinda need him i mean they havent been doin 2 good this year huh. I think it's bull crap how they take spots away from older kids who have put in more time and effort jus becuz ur dad is good @ kissin a$$.

Manolo Ray, Dieser put as much time playing basketball this summer as Woodside.

He needs to put in more obviously! :p

Why go?

Even without Woodside it would still be a great value of the money.

Jones is not on the radio because he is a coach or asst coach in Alden and that conflicts with his schedule.

yea dieser put in a lot of time...but he basically has his own frickin GYM!!!  :p

Manolo, I see nothing wrong in moving a kid ahead if he or she can handle the competition.  We have a lot of kids in town who work very hard at their sports.  If making them play up a notch helps them develop faster, why is it anymore of a crime than letting a kid skip a grade if he or she is advanced.  Why is it any more of a problem than kids in post-secondary?  As far as parents go, their are others in this town you could site way before you get to Dieser for being program interfering SOB's!

Manolo..

How about an example fo Dieser interfering?  So if a parent is active in the community his or her children are held to some other standard?   Give me a break.

Woodside is pheonominal.  No question he is  a talented natural athlete and those type of players tend to play to the level of their competition.  He will only get better and better. Natural athletic ability cannot be taught, and this kid was born with it.

i do agree that woodside is one of the best high school basketball players i have ever seen and that he's awesome to go and watch but isnt just the subject of ben woodside and how great he is and his D-I school getting just a little old?

Congrats to Ben for becoming a Mr. Basketball candidate!

i for one go to the basketball games to watch sorensen, truesdell, dahl, marty, and miller! go tigers!

I think Woodside has to lead those boys to state to win the Mr. Basketball title.  Good Luck Tigers!  It's going to take playing as a team and the entire team is going to have to come prepared.  They've given AL an exciting season so far and they've obviously given us all something to talk about.

woodys pretty good i think he will keep up in college might be good for him to deflate his big head but serisouly this years team is really good... you should definatly go to the games tuesday the 10th there is a BIG game they would love a huge crowd! We play the #1 team it would be awesome if we could be them... we have  a good chance at state this year and i really think the fans help a lot ..... support them!!

Deiser looks good for sure, but the young Skophammer lad has really started to turn it on.  He looked great Tuesday night.

2nd in nation???
Posted by just the facts on Feb. 07 2004,8:14 pm
Manolo Ray, please get your facts straight before you talk about kids online. Corey Dieser did not start for the 8th grade team when he was in 7th grade. In fact, he did not even play with the 8th graders. He played on the 7th grade school ball team. Plus, the Youth First Program at that time gave all participants equal playing time.
Posted by Manolo Ray on Feb. 22 2004,10:22 pm
hey just the facts...dieser's pappy is making him out to be the next woodside...i mean the kid has some talent but HE IS NO BEN WOODSIDE!...he thinks he is better than he actually is...he may help the b-squad out @ times but there are some other times when he forces things and wastes many possesions...he just needs to come back to reality and start playing team ball and stop thinking he is the best player on the court!!!

Woodside is quite a tallent.  He will be missed next season, even if each member of the returning team grows in skill and experience this summer.  Having said that, I think the team still has good remaining tallent.  It will be fun to see who will step up.
