7.7 billion surplus, this isn’t a little excess, this is crippling tax policy. I was listening the other day and if tax payers (yes, the ones that actually pay taxes) were cut a refund check it would be in the neighborhood of $1800 a piece.Think of the economic boost for this state

How many states have budget surpluses?You've gotta huge spike in the state budget surplus that is almost the equivalent of the last 8 years of surpluses combined.
And you don't think the Federal Government had anything to do with that, at all?
Remember back when we had the Y2K scare thing. It was postulated that there was an uptick is tax revenues due to all the prepping purchasing. All that duct tape, toilette paper, canned goods, etc. . .

^^A surplus on a annual budget doesn't mean the States debts are wiped out.Would I like to see a large tax cut, no more taxes on Social Security Etc. Etc. all the pie in the sky the Republicans are promising, sure it looks tempting, but I've got the smarts to know we'll be in RED INK up to our eyeballs in the following years..
Walz's plan includes everyone on a one time deal, what the Republicans are proposing are permanent Tax breaks for the wealthiest while poorest among us get squat...

^^I didn't really say that... President Reagan Started Taxing Social Security 1984.I pay tax on 85% of my Social Security on the Federal, the State uses your Federal income for State tax.
If you fall into lower income brackets your Social Security isn't Taxed at the Federal or State level...
We have to pay our bills, those of US fortunate enough to have higher incomes should pay.

^^I've taken this thread off track...Back to the Walz checks, IMO a viable plan..$500. per individual a thousand per couple, a plan paid for by the surplus.
I believe this would amount to about 2 billion of the surplus.
Walz has numerous other items funded by the surplus such as cyber security, $2.7 billion infrastructure package, bonuses ($1500.) for front line workers who carried US through the pandemic, and one time additional spending on numerous other state programs.
Now lets look at the Republican plan, it calls for an unfunded permanent tax cut, 3 billion this year and 2.5 billion every year after, no mention of where this money comes from, like every Republican plan it's blue sky and RED INK...geared toward the upper income as for lower income squat...

Really wish both state and federal would pass a law that requires clean bills. Everyone always amending bills and putting things in that don’t have anything to do with the original bill just messes things up.

Nice to see they got an agreement on paying back and refilling the unemployment and also some pay for the “frontline workers”. There could be an argument made that even SB qualifies. Heard some want to expand unemployment to hourly school workers for the summers hours they are off. My gut says no in that. You go in knowing the set schedule

I'd buy local but can't even buy a set of strings around here.I agree with the coolness factor. Recently bought this spalted maple chinese guitar for like $250. Only time I played it was to adjust it and will probably never play it again but it looks really cool on my guitar rack.
