The fundamental and unspoken reason we pour so much resource and attention into Israel is Bible-fueled nonsense that these people are, above all others, the Children of God. I even heard conservative-radio-host-turned-Senator Dave Thompson scream that at a caller once. Pure rubbish. They have a self-sustaining economy, and yet we pour billions into their little stolen corner of the world, because what? Jerusalem. Phaak Jerusalem. Nuke Jerusalem, for all I care. Jesus isn't coming back.

Most Americans identify as Christan, 70-85%. Plus there's the fact that Israel sits in the middle of a big oil patch. Like it or not, the industrialized world runs on hydro carbons.
I don't agree with most of the money they receive but we pitch sh!t loads of money to other countries, a lot of them that want to destroy us.
Stolen corner?? Seems to me that the Arab countries that have attacked Israel over the years deserved to lose territory.

When the entire U.N.votes against Israel while the US abstains it speaks volumes about the apartheid state, their illegal settlements and ethnic cleansing practice..

Yeah, the UN, it would be a wonderful idea to defund the UN, better yet, withdraw from. We put up a full 20% of their budget, other voting countries with great influence don't pull their share if any.
Nice chunk of real estate they have, Trump could develope it very nicely.

A banana republic would be a step up from where we're headed, namely a divided nation of twits and morons that wave the flags of their particular party, believing that their side is righteous and correct, and has all the answers. Both sides are rife with corruption, and do nothing to serve the People, and everything to coddle oligarchs and plutocrats, a group Hell-bent on hoarding as much capital as it takes in order to insulate themselves from the coming crapstorm. We used to make having that much power and influence come with a heavy price, namely reinvesting in the country that made you rich in the first place. But not anymore. Self-serving, easily-influenced criminals with names like Reagan and Bush and Clinton sold us down the river.
But judgement is coming. The blood of the rich will run in the streets, and the Chinese will sweep in and pick up the pieces. And the FOXNews crowd will somehow blame all this on the poor, as the Capitol burns.
