A store by the name of bomgarrs is going to open in the old walmart.
< al trib about bomgaars. >

Thoughts?
How do you even pronounce the name? Do you say bom then gaars but together?

I think it will be good for the community and area as a whole. It is a store that will have a regional draw.  Though not particularly familiar to many in the area it is generally well known in the upper midwest.  I think it will put pressure on some other retailers to step up their game a bit, but won't hurt some of the more niche retailers.

Bom-gaars  two syllables

I heard they are like a Fleet Farm type store with a mix of hardware, automotive, farm supplies, etc..  It'll be nice to have a larger store like this on the west side.

It'll be nice to see the old Walmart occupied.

I hope it doesn't take out the Fleet Farm on East Main..for a do-it-yourselfer that store has saved me on more occasions then I can count.

These guys (Bomgaars) list 79 store locations, but a quick count shows they have more..a Welcome addition to the Skyline..

Interesting that this was the company Austin was originally in the sights of for the old KMart space now occupied by Runnings.

I saw the sign went up by the road last week. The tribune article from February said it was expected to open in June. Since their sign went up i believe their on track to open next month. Will be interesting to see what they did to the inside and what they have exactly. Did drive through that part of the parking lot and am hoping that they fix the few holes before they get worse.

So much for the June 1st opening.

Assuming they are getting close.  All the fixtures are in the store, and I've seen product trailers in the loading dock.

Saw an article in the paper last week that said they open at eight Monday. Drove by their this morning and their is a sign on the building that says stihl so we're going to have another dealer in the area. That would make three in town plus one in gordonsville at the trading post.

So, any bets out there for how long until they close the doors?  Have never been by a brand new store so much and never see any cars there-unless they all parked in front of the Moose and walk?

It is hard to say, what will happen. You need to be able to hang in there for a while.  And promote yourself. Some genuine effort is required.

It took Home Depot a long time to really get going in Albert lea.  Anybody who was ever in that store in the beginning can attest to that.

Now it is busy day and night. You see license plates from all over the country in the parking lot, there quite often.

I think we all wanted a Home Depot back then especially because of the lumber part.  I know that I had been in and heard of Home Depots.  I didn't even know this store existed down south.  I am just surprised that a brand new store isn't more busy.  I guess time will tell.

I was in the opening day. They had some nice things in there. and it was easy to get at everything.

An incredible inventory of pants. Probably more than anyone else in Freeborn County. And some really nice high quality boots and shoes.

But it appeared that they didn't have a dressing room. With all those pants, thousand of pairs it looked like, you need that. imo

Purchased a 40 pound bag of Bomgaars cat food a couple weeks ago for $18.99 and my cat wouldn't eat it.. Returned it without a receipt and was given a refund of $4.60.. I only wanted to exchange for Meow Mix cat food..

I will never spend another dime at that sh!thole..

They will go out of business in less than a year.. Remember that they will be closed down by 9/11 of next year..

Bomgaars called me and offered me a free bag of cat food at 4:30, any brand and any size bag.. They apologized for the poor customer service and acknowledged their desire to keep me as a customer..

Maybe they deserve a second chance while they get settled into Albert Lea..

I've been to Bomgaars a couple of times even made a few purchases, I'm surprised we're not seeing sales circulars.

^Ah, leave it to you to go for the low-hanging fruit.

It is good to finally see something in the old Wal-Mart building, and to see more activity in the Skyline Mall.  For a few years that place had turned into a ghost town.

Picked up a bag of Science Diet cat food with a price of $37.99 this morning without being charged..

I saved $23.60 and was told that what happened to me should have never happened..

A big Thank You goes out to the Albert Lea Discussion Forum and Bomgaars..
