Holy crap, slaughter houses are cruel? WTF, nobody told me that, I always thought it was a volunteer thing and the pigs wanted to be ham and bacon.I swear the movie Idiocracy is a closer match to our society than 1984.
What a bunch of dumbasses, first the right wingers get wound up because they are shown videos of how horrible abortion is, act all surprised, and call to defund abortion. Then the lefties find out that slaughtering animals is a pretty horrible way to treat animals, they all act surprised, and start boycotting places like Hormel.

Having actually worked in a packinghouse, the only thing I see questionable is that guy cutting into the abscessed legs, looks like an effort to get an obvious health issue past a Government inspector! The film was somewhat deceiving, as it suggested the lack of Government Inspection, the film is showing the sticking pen which would be attached to the hog kill dept, which would have several Government Inspectors as well as a licensed Government Veterinarian(Doctor) all checking for signs of disease in the carcasses.
The film did make reference to Corporate self inspection, this very idea is being pushed by the Republican agenda, it's a bad idea, we'd all be eating crap in the name of profit!
These packinghouses already run their own Labs and quality assurance departments, but these guys don't have the juice to stand up and say we can't do that, they wouldn't have a job long if they did! If not for the USDA Inspector, food poisoning and food borne related illness would be the #1 heath issue in America!
If you want to see something gross check out a Kosher kill operation, based on some ancient religious ritual the animal is killed fully conscious..

Saw a picture on facebook the other day of letter to the editor of some paper here in the midwest somewhere. It said (as best as I can recall);"You evil hunters out killing innocent animals for their meat, why can't you go to the grocery store and get your meat there like everyone else without killing innocent animals."

My Mom and I went to Mexico for a miracle cure for her terminal cancer.. The only meat they said not to eat was pork because it is the most acidic.. They said eating processed corn fed pork with Nitrite's like bacon and sausage isn't a very healthy meat to eat and can make you more vulnerable to cancer..The miracle cure didn't work for Mom..
