I think somebody already posted this in the forum awhile back.

The central point that emerges from our research is
that economic elites and organized groups representing
business interests have substantial independent impacts
on U.S. government policy, while mass-based interest
groups and average citizens have little or no independent
influence. Our results provide substantial support for
theories of Economic-Elite Domination and for theories
of Biased Pluralism, but not for theories of Majoritarian
Electoral Democracy or Majoritarian Pluralism.
....

When the preferences of economic elites and
the stands of organized interest groups are controlled for,
the preferences of the average American appear to have
only a minuscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant
impact upon public policy.
....

When a majority of citizens disagrees with economic elites
or with organized interests, they generally lose. Moreover,
because of the strong status quo bias built into the
U.S. political system, even when fairly large majorities of
Americans favor policy change, they generally do not get it.

Hippies, then Yuppies,  then Teabaggers, now Trumpies. The vast backwater of the Silent Majority has a way of giving life to some bizarre strange creatures. But we must accept evolution with all its experiments and mutations.

"The basic imperatives of casino capitalism - extending from eliminating corporate taxes and shifting wealth from the public to the private sector to dismantling corporate regulations and insisting that markets should govern all of social life - have become the new common sense. Any viable notion of the social solidarity and shared democratic values are now viewed as a pathology, replaced by a survival of the fittest ethic, the celebration of self-interest and a notion of the good life entirely tied to a vapid consumerist ethic. Casino capitalism has created a dead zone of the imagination that even Orwell could not have envisioned.

The "dreams" that Donald Trump and many other demagogues running for president are trying to evoke are really racist illusions that comfort followers, but ignore the realities of white supremacy. They are a mirage, hiding the ongoing reality of a historical nightmare."

Not going to happen. Trump winning the White House is about as likely as the Vikings winning the Superbowl.

The results of tireless Trump opposition research has yet to make much of an appearance. When it does, the race becomes a bloodbath, with Stroke Teflon Lady coming out on top.

People will cave at the last minute, and vote establishment, no matter what they told their friends they were doing. That almost always happens.

I still think water shortages, meddling in other countries and the lying mainstream press are three of our biggest problems. But, for what you consider problems,
Sanders has no intention of hitting the likes of you with "exorbitant" taxes. You also wouldn't be paying more for healthcare because others are "losers".
Sanders has also been very much in favor of gun rights of citizens. I'm pissed that he's caved under pressure and is talking about possibly holding gun manufacturers responsible. I'm hoping he'll change his mind back again.

You honestly think Trump is good for this country??

Those complicit in Wallstreet crimes---shareholders, investors--prefer the status quo. They will feed from the devil if it's easy money. Their bitching about "lazy moochers" is a ruse to deflect attention from their pact with criminals.

Does anyone here with investments know where, when, how their dollars are being used? A good chance some is being used to suppress justice, wages, and voting rights. The middle class is hedging their own demise.

Posted by Botto 82 on Feb. 28 2016,8:30 pm
Monied fat cats and middle-class prosperity cannot coexist. At least that's what the "If you're poor, it's because you're stupid and lazy" crowd of morons would have you believe.

What idiot would argue that the rich weren't making money fast enough when the top tax rates were 80-90%, and there was a firewall between investment banks (think gamblers) and commercial banks (think George Bailey)?

These pieces of fecal matter have been shooting craps with loaded dice since Reagan. Don't have the audacity to call their money "hard-earned," especially given the number of people that lost real "hard-earned" money when these deadbeats burned Wall Street to the ground, and not one of them went to jail. NOT ONE. Christ. A kid taking money for Girl Scout cookies and then not delivering said cookies would get into more hot water than any of these a-holes did.

Nobody wants to flush the Constitution, save maybe the Sixteenth Amendment. But the Wall Street casino needs to go.

Posted by stardust14 on Feb. 28 2016,10:35 pm
We can only hope investment banking collapses once more, this time left to eat their own losses. And execs jailed long term, as in Iceland.

There is another way. So far the public, it's hand in the till along side bankers, refuses to divest, reject, or change laws. It's how long the public is willing to bow and take it in the !ss which is unknown. So far whoring themselves out to Wallstreet is not beyond their dignity.

I still say Wallstreet is a symptom in many ways, not the essential problem--a willing stab-another-in-the-back public.

QUOTE
Even before Hillary Clinton beat Bernie Sanders by a wide margin in the South Carolina Democratic presidential primary, the political and media elites that police American democracy were busy writing Sanders out of the running.

This is what happens in American politics. From the earliest stages of the primary process, pundits and political operatives try to wrap things up in tidy little boxes of conventional wisdom. Again and again, the message is delivered: Everything is finished but the final counting up of delegates, despite the fact that the vast majority of states have not voted. The pressure to conclude the competition disempowers voters and damages the discourse, and candidates have every right and reason to resist the rush to shut the competition down before it has really begun.

But resistance is futile if a candidate gets no encouragement to challenge the emerging narrative.

That is one of the reasons why a once-crowded Republican presidential race is a whole lot less crowded these days.

Something has upset the rush to write off Sanders, however. It seems that a good many Democrats, including several prominent partisans who just endorsed the insurgent, are disinclined to embrace the conventional wisdom.

Do I support Trump? Well, it's like eating a sh!t sandwich, everybody has to now and then, at least this one doesn't have nuts. The other choice? Your loser candidate has pushed her so far to the left that it'll become easy to beat her. The NRA (yeah I know, you consider them crazy, weak, stupid or whatever other nameplate you hang on them) is over six million strong and hasn't even begun ripping into her and there are several other organizations that will go after her.

No, America is a representative republic. Do yourself a favor, go see if they have a remedial civics class at on of the colleges. Besides being a bastardized use of the word your little"clubs" you form are nothing more than mob rule, screw the rights of the individual.

Nothing but thugs

Your scab mentality would have US all indentured servants to the system...

You're a nickle and dimer who will be replaced by technology shortly.. :dunce:

Technology? Driverless trucks? Bring it on! We've had this "discussion" before, sit at home on a laptop routing trucks, yeah baby! Trouble is it'll take another 10-15 years to be perfected. As for now, they just put trailers on trains and ship them cross country with a minimal train crew, an engineer and a helper.

Oh! Oh! I know! Let's go back to the drone thing where you think( ) they'll put 25 tons of freight in the air!
  :dunce:
That'll work about as good as running a socialist for prez.

PS, I heard ol' Batsh!t's laying off people now, what happened to "work for everyone"?

Well Mr. Smart Business man, you should recognize, needed manpower for the job. The number of states left to go to has become a short list. Why keep on an excess of manpower? See, thinking like that could make a big difference on how much money is spent on projects. To have an army of people just because you can, is idiotic and not penny wise.
Posted by Self-Banished on Apr. 28 2016,1:33 pm

Sorry, I'll make it more simple for you next time.

My daughter lived in Atlanta, Georgia for her first 24 years until she moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota with her kids three years ago..

She got her GED first thing and has been going to college for over 2 years.. She has went from working at Walmart to being a full-time associate at GoMobile making a good living..

Her kids are getting the best education and a quality of life that she didn't think would ever be possible..

She just needed a chance to succeed.. Minnesota gave her that chance..

The Union is still kicking a$$.. :boxing:

It never hurts having a supportive village that will guide them in the right direction..

The old Confederate State of Georgia will point them in the direction of the homeless shelter..

Thanks SB, I couldn't be more proud of what she has accomplished so far..

A Bachelor's Degree in Human Services in about a year and a half is her ultimate goal..   :woohoo:

Zooming ahead? He appears to be a media darling, more than anything. Good click bait. Hard to think of anything else that is getting the heavy saturation that this guy has gotten.

The local newspaper sites had some Trump story run for what seemed like weeks. When you clicked to go to the sites. The first thing you saw, in the upper right hand corner was a Trump Story. "We've Run The Greatest Campaign Ever".

How can you even tell if there was anyone else running? *chuckle

And - Is that really a 'story' or is that a perpetual Trump campaign ad?

Posted by Self-Banished on May 07 2016,10:20 am
^^ like him/hate him he is a master of media manipulation, and very likely our next prez. All a matter of tapping into herd mentality.
Posted by hymiebravo on May 07 2016,6:05 pm
So you are admitting you are just part of the 'herd' (As you put it)

I don't like or hate him. If you're so sure of your speculation you should put some money on it.

Giving him credit for being a master media manipulator at this point. Seems akin to calling any; if it bleeds it leads story a savvy media manipulator.

Palin proved, beyond any reasonable doubt, that “personality” and “celebrity” trumped conservative principles in today’s Republican Party. She proved that a substance-free media-centric strategy could work at the highest level of politics. Palin was dangerously unlettered, and yet the attention she received propped her up to an extraordinary degree. If they weren’t facing an historical candidate in Obama, they might have succeeded. That we came this close to that reality ought to have been a turning point for the country and for the Republican Party. But it wasn’t. And Trump confirms it.

I saw part of some cable bit one night a few weeks ago. I think Geraldo Rivera was on it. And they were sitting around talking about some anti-Trump rally or something. And there were like two guys with signs.

The whole city of New York was completely oblivious to this giant event. But it was deemed worthy fodder for this cable news show.

For all we know those two guys were paid by Geraldo for effect and ambiance.

Gotta luvv the way the 24 Hour News drives every story into the ground.

But apparently people watch it. Just like we obviously need/needed 24 Hour coverage of what Jody Arias does.

He says he was (is) a Republican, but he once saw a flier (at a Republican rally, no less) and decided he'll call himself an independent from then on; even though he's voting Republican regardless.  When he tries to explain why, there isn't a single point where he brings up any of the actual issues.  Instead, he trails off into a story about monkeys, bags of crap, genitals, but he's voting for Trump because somehow there might be a crap covered Rolex in there somewhere.   :dunce:

^I'm not making this up, those were the Yankee Marshal's reasons for voting for Trump:  "The bag of crap might have a Rolex in it, but he's worried the monkey might rip off his genitals."

^ ummm, metaphors? But what it comes down to we're going to eat a sh!t sandwich one way or another. Will Trump pick the right SCOTUS? Will he fix our tax system? Will he be the one we trust with the 3:00 am phone call? Maybe.

Should we trust Stroke lady? Fot me, absolutely not.

^^ I realize someone like you doesn't pay too close attension to the economy, either because you're retired or you're just oblivious. Our last two quarter GDP figures came in at 1.4 and .05%. Our "cooked" unemployment number somewhere around 5% yet our labor participation rate is at an all time low of 62%. People are tired of being poor, they're tired of a mismanaged economy.

more FOX Noise lies debunked...idgit.. the end Obama's second term we seem to be rolling in clover compared to the Bush Great Recession at the same point in Bush's second term or Bush's first term where he squanders OUR surplus on tax cuts for the rich and needless wars... We're still gaining jobs not losing them like the Bush final year...And I don't particularly like Obama after he pushed the Republican TPP to give Vietnam our jobs...but he's still far better than any Republitard...

Not that I'm crazy about Trump, he does provide a better choice than the crook the JHC is going to put in the general. We're in for a bumpy ride for the next decade or so. Partly the fault of the repubs but mostly due to liberals thinking along the lines of your entitlement mentality.

It's growing more and more apparent that Trump will beat stroke lady this fall.
