AGREED!!!!!  I got one piece of meat on my sandwich!  Ridiculous for the price!  I won't be going back anytime soon!!!!!  I did not like the bread sandwich (couldn't even taste the one piece of meat!!!)

we were expecting a little bit more form them! we were disappointed with their sandwiches. we thought the bread crust was kind of hard. the subway's toasted ones are hard to beat imho! the subway has more of a variety to choose from. i predict an early demise of this franchise, which is unfortunate as they have stuck a fair amount of bucks into it. in that particular location it has been hard to make a go of it.

It's always been pretty good the few times I have eaten there. The soups are especially tasty. And judging by the amount of deliveries being made to the hospital I think they will do just fine.

I had the buffalo chicken (erupter) sandwich and it was AWESOME!  The MN wild rice and chili is good, as well. Y'all must have just gone on an off day.   Tons of meat on my sub...

I suppose it all depends on which "sandwich artist" you get, is this what Hymen's been doing??? :D

My wife got a sandwich there one day and was only able to eat half as she was full. The other half sat in the fridge until I decided I better eat it before I have to throw it out. I wasn't expecting much since it had been sitting but it was pretty good I thought.

May have one for lunch today.

Posted by Self-Banished on Sep. 04 2012,5:27 pm
now this wouldn't happen if the had "union" sandwich artist. :D
Posted by Botto 82 on Sep. 04 2012,7:16 pm
Maybe for the Albert Lea franchise, they should consider renaming the store "Pearls Before Swine."
Posted by twingroves on Sep. 05 2012,10:48 am
whats the union got to do with makeing a sandwich   if the union was in there the sandwich would cost 4 times as much
Posted by Self-Banished on Sep. 05 2012,11:02 am
^ what's the union got to do with anything???
Posted by twingroves on Sep. 05 2012,11:44 am

I could not wait for Erbert and Gerberts to open!! My daughter has raved about how good they are. She lives in Rochester and eats there often.
I went in one evening and ordered the one with the chicken salad. The filling was okay. The bread was so incredibly dry that I ended up throwing the top away and eating only the bottom. That along with the inability to add toppings made it a very disappointing meal. I will not go back.
However, I do have to wonder how dry the day old bread is...if what I had was suppose to be fresh.

I too, was less than impressed. I wish them the best. I'll not be back. I had the seafood with the bacon.  It was
disappointing. I was there at a busy time of day, you could have sanded boards with the bread. :D l

I like their simple subs.  I enjoy the veggie options and their soup.  It's a nice quick healthier option for lunch. I don't feel icky after lunch like other fast food places.

I've eaten E&B before but tried the AL store tonight.  Same stuff different town.  I like it when I'm in a hurry.  I am getting board with Subway.  I do prefer Quiznos over the other sandwhich shops.

Not surprised by the negative comments.  The town couldn't keep a starbucks, but McD's, Taco Bell, and other crappy fast food joints thrive.

Albert Lea a Blue Zone, my ass.

Tried it last weekend. I liked it, but, then one of the managers recognized me. Thinking I recieved the VIP treatment. But, hey, I am good with that. Soup and Sandwich.

Starbucks closed hundreds if not thousands of their locations, including their Mankato location - a college town where they should have been thriving.

I haven't tried E&G yet, but I have heard that you have to order the sandwiches EXACTLY as listed on the menu because they are made and wrapped elsewhere. There are some ingredients I don't care for (such as mayo) which are common on most subs.

Then again, I guess I'm not THAT big on subs to begin with. I might check them out sometime but I'm in no hurry. I've heard their soup is really good.

I have eaten at the E&G here in Mankato a bunch of times after concerts at the Verizon Center.  All the sandwiches were made right in front of us, never pre-made or anything like that.  They are a little pricier than say Subway but still worth it for what you get IMO.  They are building another E&G in Upper North only a couple blocks from the house here, that'll be a nice addition up here for us.

I was surprised to hear that the sandwiches (some of them anyway) were premade. That seemed unusual for a sub place, but I heard that from someone who has been there a few times.

I wonder if ours is an Erbert and Gerbert express, if there is such a thing.

On that note, does anyone remember the Subway knockoff that was in the Northbridge Mall food court in the early 90s? I think it was called Freshway, and even their logo was a Subway knockoff. They didn't last long. Of course, they were competing against several real Subway restaurants.

You can get your sandwhich however you want. They are made right there. My wife has them add and remove stuff all the time. Me, I'm not so fussy.  :D

Good to know. Thanks.

I tried Erbert and Gerberts a couple weeks ago.  Wasn't bad, the bread seemed fresh and soft enough.  A little thin on the meat and veges though.  Around here I still think Quiznos is by far the best for subs, but Subway is pretty good too so I'd give Subway second place.

I wouldn't mind trying E&G again sometime.  As with any place it can take a while to find a favorite sub or soup.

Here it is. When the franchise was here, it didn't say "Food Systems" on the logo, and the "Freshway" part was green and blue, almost exactly like Subway was then.

I think they were where the travel agent (don't recall their "new" name) is now in the Northbridge Mall. I lived in Le Center for a few years, and they had one there too.

I'm surprised they're still around. Apparently you can still open up a sandwich franchise. These guys are the McDowell's of sub sandwiches.

Like I say...attitude. The old "pigs at the trough while on the latest hollywood diet" mentality. Eat less, eat healthier.
