Will this mean that gays can force say,the Catholic Church, to marry them?
Posted by Self-Banished on Jun. 26 2015,4:34 pm
Probably not a great week for a particular Viking

We met my wife's birth mom, her partner, and her two stepsisters about 16 years ago and thanks to the great State of Minnesota they were able to be married last summer during our yearly vacation in Brainerd.

This picture was taken on Love lake the week after they were  married and I don't understand how two people being happy can have a negative effect on anyone else. Well, except having 3 mother in laws named Julie,  Judy, and Julie is confusing, and a little bit scarey.

Posted by Self-Banished on Jun. 27 2015,4:28 am
I have no problem with whoever someone wants to be with to make them happy in life.
What I have a problem with is the gov being involved in marriage at all, tax code, legal, whatever. What this really is is an attack on organized religeon and anyone or business that stands up for what they believe.

But I also have a problem with discrimination. I do not care who I do business with, money is money. Should someone be able to refuse business based on their faith?
Very mixed feelings here.

Organized attack on religion? All they're asking for is equal protection under the law, what does religion have to do with it?

Why would liberals organize an attack on religion? We don't care who, or what you worship or what you believe as long as you don't violate the rights of others. And you have no Constitutional right to not be offended, or to make others follow your religious beliefs.

Posted by Liberal on Jun. 27 2015,11:41 am
Why do Christains not see this as a social bias? If it was really about religion they would treat divorce the way they treat same sex marriage.

Posted by Self-Banished on Jun. 27 2015,1:51 pm
How about a business owner trying to follow his/hers own faith?

Now I know you're going to say that they're open to the general public therefore they cannot discriminate, but if you were going to use that reasoning I should be able to bring a hog into the local Muslim butcher shop(and there are a few in the cities now) and have him cut.

Posted by Liberal on Jun. 27 2015,2:31 pm
You don't get to treat people differently based on their religion which is a choice, but you think you should be able to discriminate based on who someone loves?
Posted by Grinning_Dragon on Jun. 27 2015,2:42 pm
The gay marriage ruling, is actually a silver lining and it just opened the door for national handgun concealed reciprocity.

^^actually, I should be able to carry in all 50 now.
You're right GD

What about the Hobby Lobby decision?

That had nothing to do with not treating same sex customers the same it was about abortions.. Do you  think the Somali cab drivers should be able to force their religous prohibition of alcohol on you?
Posted by Liberal on Jun. 27 2015,10:40 pm
Believe it or not I've read multiple versions of the Bible including the Mormon Bible, and Jesus spoke vaguely one time about homosexual relationships and he spoke many many times about divorce.

Not being condescending or sarcastic when I say that you're bright enough to understand the Bible, and you should take the time to read it. Personally I'd start with the New Testament I've read it several times in the Army. Then read the Old Testament and see if you don't understand why we needed a New Testament. I'd also not recommend the Mormon book, it's seriously crazier than any book of the Bible, and a waste of time..

One book I haven't been able to read much of is The Koran, I'd like to but it's confusing and Old Testament crazy.

Actually you would be quite surprised at how many of those dirty skinnies refuse to ferry passengers that have alcohol either on their person or on their breath and heaven forbid if the person hailing a cab has a dog with them, oh boy.

No, there was no reference to homosexually in the HL decision. There was however a decision overriding the law in favor of a persons beliefs.

I have read different versions of the bible and I've read parts of the koran(yep, it's batsh!t crazy and hard to follow)

My faith is very personal to me and I'll just leave it at that.

Posted by Liberal on Jun. 28 2015,8:20 pm
But if you've read the New Testament it's hard to miss the point of His message. It certainly isn't a message of judgement, intolerance, and exclusion.

To me I don't see it as a religious issue and people that try to claim it is has seriously missed His point.

If you like reading religious books try the book of Mormon it's pretty hard to take any of it seriously, but somehow that cult is growing like crazy. Even if you just read the Wikipedia page it sort of leaves you with mouth hanging open.

Christianity, like so many other things in America, got corrupted when the rich got involved.
Posted by Self-Banished on Jun. 29 2015,10:42 am
^^ hmmm.
An explanation??

Posted by MADDOG on Jun. 29 2015,11:34 am
I think he means rich people are corrupt or you can't be corrupt unless you're rich.  Or Christians are rich which makes them corrupt.  I don't know, maybe corrupt Christians are rich or maybe he meant only Christians are corrupt, but only if they are rich.  :dunno:

I wonder if that'll be a good day to be an American?

Posted by grassman on Jul. 05 2015,7:05 pm
I think the major concern here is, our laws are being made to conform to one particular group. This in itself could be a very slippery slope. Where does the conforming end? Once you set a precedence, most anything can happen. It has already brought forth, where does one person's right end and another person's begin? Changing laws to accommodate one area, is dangerous.
Posted by Self-Banished on Jul. 08 2015,6:43 am
^^ yep, I couldn't agree more. It seems like freedom of speech depends on how good your lobbying group is.

Is it my imagination or is this SCOTUS all over the board on cases?

Posted by Liberal on Jul. 08 2015,1:15 pm
You realize there are more conservative appointed justices than liberals, right?

Funny how you halfwits on the right loved the supreme court over Citizen United, and Hobby Lobby cases.

Face it your time is up, you old bigots will die without ever making any contribution to the future of America.

If you don't like it around here, what's keeping you? Pretty sure you can sell cars  anywhere in this country and moving to Texas you'd be doing us a favor by raising the  collective IQ in the area, and lowering Texas. Besides I hear its a lot easier to get benefits like your free (to you)  hospital stay. Only problem is you might not be able to find another basement to live in there.

Just to help you out Maddog is the one who sells cars. I drive a cab with hopes of graduating to a u-haul.

Who are you flapping your gums at?  I haven't posted on this thread since June 29th and only a response to Botto giving him a little ribbing.

I think you better ease up on drinking all that seawater in your aquariums.  The coral poop must be making you dizzy.

By the way, just in case you're not sure.  It's Wednesday today.  :D

So if I say something considered to be inflammatory, someone can attack me and get away with it.

If a gay couple tells a bakery they want a cake for their wedding and the bakery says "no" the gay couple can sue, even to the point of the owners losing their house.

Exactly what happened to the first amandment? I'm sure at least one of the liberal faithful will be able to spell this out for me.

Posted by stardust14 on Jul. 13 2015,10:56 pm
For at least the first 100 yrs or so the 1st amendment(and a few others) belonged to powerful white men. It's a cruel wake-up call for today's white men to learn to share constitutional rights.
Posted by Self-Banished on Jul. 14 2015,5:42 am
The constitution is meant only for white men? All of it?

Once again hit by a pious "drive by".

^Do you think the story you referenced was the woman's choice of what to do with her body (after a medical consultation)?  That she decided to have an under the influence man serve in front of her to terminate her pregnancy and send them and all of their passengers to the hospital?  Of course not.

It's about choice, it's always been that way.
