Aren't you glad you're way inland; in Minnesota?

QUOTE
The storm was the most destructive in the 108-year history of New York City’s subway system, said Joseph J. Lhota, the chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, in an early morning statement. “We are assessing the extent of the damage and beginning the process of recovery,” he said, but did not provide a timetable for restoring transit service to a paralyzed city.

At least 16 deaths — including 7 in the New York region — were tied to the storm, which toppled trees and sparked fires in several areas, The Associated Press reported.

Grateful that I'm not in harm's way, but we have family out there. They are in a safe zone, at least for now (meaning right this minute, we just heard from them) - but some of the footage of the other areas was devastating. Portions of Queens underwater and ablaze at the same time. Lower Manhattan without power. Subway tunnels full of water. With a storm like this, there isn't much you can do except stock up on provisions or get out of the way.

I expect people from both sides to have a fit that this put a dent in early voting, and possibly Election Day voting as well. No matter who wins, the other side is going to blame the storm and claim that it affected voter turnout (which it likely will do).

As a weather junkie I have to confess that the storm was extremely fascinating.  But we need to remember all of those affected by the storm and the rescue personnel who are working to help the victims.

SB:  you are spot on

What would have happened if it was election week when the storm struck?  Kind of a scary thought.
