LMAO!
Picture the Pink Panther and sing along.
Dead Ant....Dead Ant.....Dedant dedant dedant dedant dedaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

I have a house that was built in the 1950's and all my insulation has rotted away. Ants have found their way into my garbage can closet. I would just spray the he77 out of everything with bug killer, but I have a large dog and 2 cats. I need a better solution that won't harm my pets.
I already used Lysol on the walls and floor. That didn't slow them down for more than a few days. I've got those square things that the ants walk into and they bring the substance back to the nest. That doesn't seem to help.
Any suggestions?

I had the same problem, having pets limits what you can do somewhat.  The things that the ants walk into usually don't do anything, when I used them, the bug would just avoid it.
With an ant problem, I would use the liquid, syrupy ant poison.  It comes in a small bottle, and the stuff I've used was clear.  I had pets also, so I would put it in an area the cat or dog couldn't get into.  Like inside a cupboard, but somewhere thats preferably in the path of the ants.  If you put the poison on a piece of paper or cardboard, like the directions say, make sure its close enough to the surface for the ants to get on top of easily.  If they can get to it easily, they'll probably start flocking to it, and pretty soon you'll see a pile of dead ants. :D
