Has anyone ever heard of this before? How cool!! These rocks slide around all by themeselves.

Death valley, home of rocks that cant find their place. they move seemingly on their own. some move, some dont. large rocks will move great distances while smaller rocks will remain, or vice versa. no one knows why

I remember reading somewhere that they did find out what causes the rocks to move. I'll have to go look this up later today to be sure, so don't quote me on this. The ground draws dew during the night and swells the ground .  In the day, when it evaporates off and the ground shrinks again, it moves the rock forward.

*diving into the vast resources of the Internet*  Be back with either the confirmation of this or the apology for somehow thinking this up in a realistic dream later on today...

Ah.  Well, I was wrong.  Here's the website where you can go see the explanation (turns out it's probably just the wind): http://www2.nature.nps.gov/geology//usgsnps/deva/ftrac2.html

Still that is cool.  Nature does some amazing things.

Agreed.  It's nice to know that there are some things left out there that just make you stop and go, "Wooooowwww.... cool."  :) The stone arches out in Utah are another cool thing.

light rocks, evaporating moisture and strong wind? My first thought was magnetic. Nature is cool! ;)
