Has anyone else read the latest news about Dennis Flaherty and the gang of thugs at his Albert Lea car dealership?  He was caught red handed.  Is there really any qustion as to whether or not he is guilty?  It is right there in black and white.  It is time for the people in this community to give him the credit he deserves for being such a THEIF! It baffles me that anyone can buy anything from him and his group of misfits.

Stealing money is hardly murder ... but I get your point. I don't know about anyone else but I for one would never do business with him again or his croney's. I didn't relise that he was still in business. Haven't paid that much attention.

The sentence shows the common sense of our judges and the whole case shows the lack of common sense our little county attorney has. A $900 fine ???, I wonder what it cost to investigate and prosecute that heinous crime?

Does anyone remember how this investigation started?

I think times are so hard in AL that if someone believes someone is getting something for free, they get outraged beyond belief because their lives are so miserable that everyone will suffer along with them or else...

How? The car would have taxes paid on it once like they should be. Our "little" wanted double tax. How's that differ from government stealing $40 million from us while telling us they're going to cause us ruin? Huh??? Explain that!

It started with Flarety selling a new Buick in the mall parking lot.  Denis has a Buick store in Fairmont.  Next, Doug Herr from Hyvee came in and tried to buy a new GMC from them, wearing a wire.  The next day, in came the DOT.  They just looked around and left.  A couple of days later, the DOT showed up with a rented U-Haul and took out every piece of paper in the plac.

What they discovered was that vehicles had been reported to GM as sold to employees, who, in addition to any rebates, get large additional employee discounts.  count one  Then they resold the cars as new cars to customers, when in reality, once the cars were reported to GM, the warranty starts ticking and must be sold as new cars.  count two  Because when the cars were "sold" to the employees, state sales tax must be paid to the state and were not.  count three.

Count one: Theft by swindle.
Count two: Fraud
Count three: Tax evasion.

Because of the large sums and broad violations, these were all classified as felonies.  In the state of Minnesota, a felon cannot hold a auto Franchise.

WE all know all too well how our justice system works.  It's called plea bargaining.  In this case the Alford plea.

In an Alford Plea, the defendant does not admit the act, but admits that the prosecution could likely prove the charge.
