Yesterday I left out several bags of clothes, toys, housewares on the curb for the Epilepsy Foundation to pick up their donation drive. I had a sheet of paper on one of the bags marked EF for them to pick up. When I came home for lunch they were gone and my garbage can was on the curb open. This is confusing as my normal garbage day was Wednesday and they already picked up and we always bring our garbage can back up to house. When I first called the garbage company they said they couldn't have done it and maybe the foundation had already picked up the donation. I called the foundation out of minneapolis and she checked on it and said they had not picked up anything. When I called the garbage company back, the lady said it may have been a new driver or summer help and apologized and said she would make sure that I didn't get charged for an extra pickup. I was so upset over this as the fair market value of the items would have been over 200.00 that I could hardly sleep last night. I decided to talk to the supervisor of the garbage company to find out what he was going to do about this. His response was it was probably another garbage service!! Now you tell me, why another garbage service would take the "garbage marked for the epilepsy foundation and also walk up to the house to get my garbage can to empty. He said he would make a note of it and if he found out something he would call me. Anybody ever have anything like this happen to them!!

100% your fault. You should have known it would appear as garbage and the garbage collectors gets in trouble if he leaves it. He's in a no win situation because he couldn't readily figure out what you wanted. It's your fault.
Too many people complain if they don't pick up boxes and such ....so...I don't want them to stop doing that because you only mark your trash with some initials. Your bad.
Period. If you lose sleep over stuff like this your problem may be more than just worrying about where your old cloths went and may be helped through medical care at the MHC. That's mantal health center....don't be ashamed to seek help.

I'm not 100% sure it was the garbage co. or not!! I have never once had a garbage man walk up to my house and get my garbage can if I forget to put it out. Maybe someone thought the donations were freebees like some set out to get rid of. They liked what they saw and decided to dig through your garbage as well!!

Lynn, no way did your garbage co. or a different one pick it up, i.e. Thompson is not going to pick up Waste System's. Plain and simple, somebody stole it.

Yup...good chance and most likely someone in need just grabbed it.(See? Someone needy ended up wit it anyhow) People often put stuff out with a free sign on it or people think it's throwout.

I agree with the theory that someone probably took the EF stuff, but that still doesn't explain how the heck your garbage can got emptied!? Weird...
