Compliance checks administered by members of the Albert Lea Police Department found four businesses in violation of liquor laws which prohibit the sale of alcohol to minors. Slammers Bar, Green Lea Golf Course, Mexico Lindo, and Knights of Columbus were among 35 businesses checked Friday, April 16, throughout Albert Lea.
The compliance checks involved minors under the age of 21 who entered businesses attempting to purchase alcohol.
Clerks who sold alcohol to an underage person may face a gross misdemeanor charge and $500 fine, according to the Freeborn County Attorney's office.
MAY FACE $500 FINE.......The key word here is MAY!
Sell illegal(minor) drugs to kids and a slap on the wrist. Sell pot, go to prison for a long, long time. Is THIS our drug war?

Yes.
The employees of those businesses most likely were not selling the controlled substances to the minors in a wanton manor.
The media uses may because the prosecutor will not make direct comment on the sentencing of those who face the charges. Sentencing is in the future bone head. Key word here is future.
Prosecutors are not fortune tellers. It does not say the Amazing City Attorney on his job title. If you don't like the word "may" check with a seer not an attorney.

This statement is absolute proof that you're one of the dumbest people EVER to post on this forum.
"The employees of those businesses most likely were not selling the controlled substances to the minors in a wanton manor."
A WANTON manor? How does the "manor" effect or determine whether a crime was committed or not?
Fine that speeder more! He was speeding in a wanton manor!
You must be Gabe. No one is that stupid.

Selling drugs and speeding are two very different things all together and shouldn't even be considered in a scenerio like this. What a dumb ass.
A drug dealer in a dark alley selling drugs to little kids vs a cashier that forgot to check a drivers lic are legitimate reasons for an offense to be lessened for the latter. For sure the intent isn't there.
However, I believe that the fines they have posted are accurate and justifiable. I'm glad they are cracking down on selling alcohol and cig's to minors.

"Selling drugs and speeding are two very different things all together and shouldn't even be considered in a scenerio like this. What a dumb ass". -------Boy, that went right over your head. The point being, it doesn't matter the manor the law is being broken as much as it does IF the law is being broken. One is either committing a crime or not.
"A drug dealer in a dark alley selling drugs to little kids vs a cashier that forgot to check a drivers lic are legitimate reasons for an offense to be lessened for the latter. For sure the intent isn't there." ----How would you presume to know what the intent is? The intent in both cases is to sell drugs for profit. All drugs(substances) are illegal for minors.
However, I believe that the fines they have posted are accurate and justifiable. I'm glad they are cracking down on selling alcohol and cig's to minors. ------They aren't selling to minors, that would presume intent. They're just forgetting to check...remember?
It's all BS however.

Oh wow.
kid you are truely not smart. It does matter if one intends to sell illegal substances or simply goofs up. Get smarter or get out.
I say again try the teen chat or music chat on MSN. The kids on those chat forums are more your peers. The level of discussion here is far more than you can wrap that charred excuse for a brain of yours around.

I have been reading the court records in the paper. I haven't seen one person in there that got a prison sentence for selling dope........or smoking it. You keep going on about how someone who smokes pot goes to jail for 20 years. I can't find the records of it.
