I was reading the article on the funding cuts for Section 8 housing vouchers. It is supposed to assist local underemployed, unemployed, elderly disabled, working families and children to afford a home. I don't understand why our local HRA has asked other agencies to absorb the portable families that receive aid from HRA after they move to another county or state. Why is that our problem and not the new county's or state's problem?

From the Tribune article Lynn's referencing at http://www.albertleatribune.com/articles/2004/04/19/news/news2.txt:
Quote | ...cutting the portability policy so families can no longer receive funds after they have moved out of the area could control loss. | Well... duh....
RepDan (or anyone else out there with actual concrete knowledge of this agency policy), could you please explain this?

It probably saves the county money in the long run. It's like this "Hey Joe Welfare, have we got a deal for you...you agree to move away from here & don't come back, we will continue to subsidize you for 6 months while you get on your feet then you will need to start leeching off of your new gov't jurisdiction."
