Just heard that Darryl is no longer with the radio station.  Anyone know what happened?

They still list him on their schedule— Darrel Amundson  MONDAY - FRIDAY 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Kate is owned by Alpha Media, I believe their CEO's name may shed some light on your question—  Bob Proffitt—President & Chief Executive Officer

I don't know what happened but Darrel was a talent, partyline won't be the same, and his vast knowledge from cooking recipes to music will be missed.

Well, I think he may have gotten fired.  When a lady called in on party line yesterday, all Mike Woitas would say is he is no longer with the station.  The next person called in and said she hope Darryl will enjoy his retirement and Mike said ok.  Not, yes we all wish him luck, nothing!  Something is up.  Too bad.

^^Yesterday's Partyline had two calls directed at Darrel, the first inquired about a retirement party for Darrel, all Mike Woitas would say is he wasn't aware of any, the second caller said "Darrel if you're listening we miss you."

I fear you're correct Whiskero...

Talked to a person yesterday.  He said he was in the know so here goes.  Supposedly with this virus, the station had rules they were to follow-don't let anyone in the station, keep distancing, etc.  I was told he was letting people in a lot and not following protocol so they fired him.

I've known Darrel since 1978, and I've worked in broadcasting, off and on, for most of that time. Stories like this are nothing new. It is, anymore, a heartless business replete with know- nothings that think their "fresh" ideas will fare better in the marketplace, and cost less, and one thing that always seems to stand in the way of their plans, in their minds, anyway, is the notion of "legacy " employees, people who have been-there, done that, recognize crap when they step in it, and usually aren't afraid to say so. It was all over for talented radio people as soon as someone discovered they could store and play back mp3 files on a computer, much as it was over for honest-to-God television newscast directors once it was realized that programs like iNews and ENPS could do everything from rolling video to switching and aiming cameras.

Darrel is a good old friend, one deserving of a more dignified end to a lengthy and storied career.

The first time I called Darrel while he was on-air, he was playing the unedited album version of The Who's "Who Are You?" and I thought I heard a certain word that didn't belong on the radio. I was fifteen. Forty years later, I'm thinking maybe that word does belong on the radio, as it fits that industry and this situation to a T.

As soon as we can, we will be giving him the "retirement" party that he deserves where the community can say thank you for all he's given over the last 50 years.

I don't think anyone realizes that he worked every holiday so others with families could have the day off. We didn't have that with him, our kids grew up without a father here on holidays until his shift was done, usually late in the afternoons.

He also was never here with us during severe weather, he was expected at the station no matter what, without any extra pay EVER, weekends included.

But no one seems to care about that, so once we can do the party, I think it only appropriate that the community come and say thank you for all that he gave over the years
