Scumbag Killer to Return to Work
Posted on: Oct. 29 2011,9:07 am by Stone-Magnon

They are sorry it HAD to happen though...so...they good, dead man bad...get it and fall in line...

Deputy Involved in Fatal Shooting Back to Work

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- In mid-September, a Winona county man was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy after what was initially thought to be a gun had been pointed at officers.

It's since been revealed that man didn't have a gun. Winona County Sheriff David Brand tells me Deputy John Hazelton will return to work on Saturday. He will be joined by another deputy on his shift while he readjusts.

"I feel bad it had to happen. I feel bad for the deceased's mother and grandparents as well and my condolences go out to them and I pray for both sides," says Brand.

On September 14th, a bridge on Bridge Street in Minnesota City is where the BCA says Deputy John Hazelton shot and killed 25-year-old, Chase Kolstad.

The Winona County Sheriff's Deputy has since been put on standard administrative leave until now.

"I got the word in writing that he uh- John is capable of coming back to full capacity and he has told me he's ready to come back to work and he feels he can handle himself," says Brand. Hazelton is a ten year veteran, but Brand says no matter how much time you spend on the force, officer involved shootings are never easy.

"They're all human. Police officers are just like anybody else and they had a stress-debriefing class, they had counseling that were involved," says Brand. Despite the ongoing investigation, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says they had no decision in reinstating Hazelton. That was Brand's call.

"If it comes back that the grand jury and they find he's at fault, then we'll have to deal with it at that point," says Brand. The BCA says Kolstad pointed an unidentified weapon at officers as well as himself, before Hazelton shot him. But for many the question remains of what the weapon was and even if they find the answer, Brand says noone's happy about this.

"There's officers that lost sleep at night. This is a very tragic, tragic situation. I feel bad that it had to even happen," says Brand.

The BCA says it will present their findings to the Hennepin County attorney's office the second week of November. It's then up to Hennepin county to decide when to make those details public information.
